Saw a newspaper coupon yesterday for $2 off Nivea and thought about adding to my stash of same/similar.

Women will wear whatever we please, to please ourselves.  

 

I am a strawberry blonde and wear the colors you say are not flattering quite frequently (along with quite a bit of green in every shade but the shocking ones) and I am told I look quite chic, or at least classic. Few prints unless they're small, no ruffles, no feathers (except maribou on boudoir slippers), thin stripes, no sequins or rhinestones. I'm a smallish person, barely 5'2", and clothes can easily overwhelm me. I focus on flattering, well-cut, classic pieces that work well together -- I moved to having a capsule wardrobe a few years ago. Now I just buy a couple of new pieces per season with a pop of color. Same goes for accessories. I want the focus to be on me, not what I'm wearing.  I also recently got over the whole "redhead (or redhead adjacent) people shouldn't wear red. I wore a D&G red midi dress with a sweetheart neckline to a friend's wedding in October and it was amazing.

 

If I feel confident and like how I look, that confidence shows. I spent many years dressing to please someone else (though thankfully our tastes mostly coincided) and when that relationship was over, I tried to do the same with my fiance. He was completely appalled and told me what he liked me in was whatever made me feel comfortable and happy, or whatever I was not wearing after I took it all off.  The person with the clothing addiction in our relationship is him -- in our new place, HE'S the one with the huge closet. So many shoes, so, so many shoes........

@Mrs. M: I used the spray and it is amaaaaaazing. My hair is so smooth and dried in no time at all, especially with the ridiculous Dyson hairdryer that Alex bought me. (Regrets/no regrets.) I'm at my usual cafe this morning and the barista said WOW did you do with your hair? But yeah, that smell when it's sprayed.... whoa. Thank you!

Blondes can wear just about any color. Nothing is wrong with black. LBDs exist for a reason. This woman should never have worn that outfit while at work. It's clearly a date night outfit.

There's a line in a song by Cigarettes After Sex that goes: "Think I like you best when you're dressed in black from head to toe" that Al sings to me. He likes the contrast. Also, I don't completely buy into the whole "seasons" thing. Some people have neutral undertones, and look good in both cool and warm colors. I'm on the slightly warmer side of neutral but I look GROSS in orange/yellow.

 

That song is really pretty overall, so dreamy.
