In contrast with past years, I've become exceptionally sensitive to some women's perfumes and men's colognes.  I've had to change airplane seats because of it.

Part of the problem (with women especially, but not exclusively) is that they seem to drench themselves in the stuff to keep themselves from stinking of sweat or whatever else they're masking.

@TBoneTX I feel your pain. My opinion of a person is downgraded by several levels if they spray on too much perfume.

love scent, and enjoy collecting and wearing them to suit my moods and the weather. I sometimes wear them to help me write -- when I was working through a writer's block for my main female character, I put on something I thought she might wear, and all of a sudden I could "hear" her better. I am particular about what I wear, preferring gourmand scents (vanilla, date, peach, cherry, rum) and light florals (lily, violet, gardenia) to anything too musky or powdery (yuck). People tell me I smell amazing. I will take the compliment!

But... the people who tell me this are people who are in very close physical proximity to me. I prefer to wear scent "close to the body" (as the saying goes), so that it pleases me first, like a little secret I carry with me all day long, something I share with only those I choose to. It lifts my spirits or lets me wallow if I choose. For me, it is a private expression of who I am on any given day. That's not something I share lightly.

Last week I took the elevator at lunch time and it reeked of off-brand Drakkar Noir. When I rode it again three hours later to do a coffee run, it still reeked of off-brand Drakkar Noir. No! :dead:

@laylalex My order is in the mail, I will let you know .  I am in Canada for a few days and I might check out the colour and texture of the Watier pencil in Urban Velours.  Frequent travels for work will be back soon, and I really try to lighten my bag as much as possible.

Good luck with the writing, you are perseverant and will do it!  I kind of overdosed in school, and my desire to write is slowly coming back.  I am only jotting down ideas for now.

Men Beauty Things

My man really likes the Paula's Choice Aftershave.  It is pretty much unscented, but his skin has been real nice since he started using it (after I moved in!).  It goes on sale regularly.

Otherwise, he likes to keep his head shaved and he has been recommending the Pitbull shaver to family and friends.

Aquaphor or Homeplasmine for his dry lips - whatever he was using before was irritating and not helping much.

Sunscreen, sunscreen every day.

He does not want to play and let me put nail polish on him, put that is a secret dream of mine.  One day, one day.

----

I absolutely hate it when people wear too much perfume/cologne.  I thought I was going to be sick on a recent train trip to D.C.  The lady in the row back to me was stinking of too much perfume.  I wear some on most days, but very lightly.  I want to get compliments from someone cuddling me,  not strangers :P  Strangers can enjoy that I am clean and not stinky, that is enough.

Alex is mostly awful about skincare. I have tried so, so many times. He uses Jack Black for shaving these days, which is a fine brand -- the cream and an afterbalm. He washes with a washcloth and water. Moisturizer? No -- he doesn't see the point of it. I do make him wear sunscreen -- this is one of my only rules for living with me. I grew up here and I had the importance of sunscreen drilled into me. It's why I am almost 37 and I am regularly mistaken for someone 10 years younger. No lines, no wrinkles, and no procedures to get me that way.

I have never tried nail polish on him. Hmmmm. :D Actually I am not a nail polish girl at all, but I have always wanted to be. I used to get weekly manicures, but invariably they would be chipped on day 3. My ex used to be a stickler about always looking perfect, and the manicures were part of that -- and my attempts at doing touch ups were always a disaster. But I do like polish still -- if I wasn't so sloppy with my handiwork I would do it myself.

One of the things I picked up in the Sephora sale was a throwback from waaaaaay back -- the tarte cheek stain! I used to wear these years ago and I loved them, because they give a natural flush, very lit from within. https://tartecosmetics.com/shop/limited-edition-cheek-stain-846733071005.html I picked up the Tipsy and Exposed shades. On sale, they were a good price, as you need very little to get depth of color. There are other brands that do something similar -- NYX has a good one in Baby Doll for $9.50. https://www.nyxcosmetics.com/face/blush/sweet-cheeks-soft-cheek-tint/NYX_900.html?dwvar_NYX__900_color=Baby Doll

Hmmmm. This requires a few questions:

I believe that YSL is what they call an aquatic -- fresh, "clean" etc. Do prefer aquatics, or are you interested in some of the other scent families usually associated with masculine scents? For example: woody/earthy; spicy/oriental; gourmand? There are some very good masculine florals out there but they can be something of an acquired taste.

Do you prefer it to be in a range, so there are other items with the same scent (deodorant, aftershave, body wash, etc) to allow for scent layering?

Any notes you absolutely hate? Many people hate powdery or musk, for example, or anything with patchouli. I think musk and patchouli can be wonderful in small amounts, mixed with other notes. Powdery rarely shows up in mens' scents.

Let me know -- I am on the case! We have a stupidly large collection of bottles and testers between my husband and me, so I can probably give you a few pointers. Our tastes run from mainstream to niche and everything in between, so I can probably come up with a few ideas. :)

So let me clarify as I was on the iPad when I last responded and did not give a complete list.  Along with the YSL Bleue Eau, I also have the following in my collection:  Clinque Calyx, ADG Absolu (these two are favorites of the wife), Chanel Homme Sport, ADG Pour Homme, and Hugo Boss The Scent.  I like all of them depending on my mood, but am always looking at new scents.  I used to do my scent shopping at Duty Free when I was traveling, but that has been for naught the past 2+ years, so any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks!  :)

You have made my mom very happy! (And me too. :D)

Went to Sephora today (don't worry, I left Alex at the ice cream parlor next door) and picked up a lipliner (boring but necessary) and a new facial oil. At the suggestion of the staff member, I am going to try out a rose hip oil from The Ordinary: https://theordinary.com/en-us/100-organic-cold-pressed-rose-hip-seed-face-oil-100394.html At $9.80, it's a bargain. I needed a good oil to work with my facial massage I try to remember to do every day. Now, I know that sounds dumb, but it does improve skin tone and firmness, and it's far better to do something very natural and non-invasive when you're still young enough to lay down a good foundation, than to regret not doing it when you're older. I intend to age naturally but to look as good as I can while I do it. Also, skin is our biggest organ and it's so important to take care of it.

Also the ladies at Sephora gathered round and oooohed and aaaaahed my Sephora point level, which is currently 18,388 points. Only one of them had ever seen a level higher. I said well, I got bored during the pandemic and bought a lot of palettes. :D Speaking of which, sale on Urban Decay Naked Honey palette at the moment, 50% off: https://www.sephora.com/product/naked-honey-palette-P449097?icid2=value sets :p449097:product
