Beauty and grooming is a hobby. If I were into, say, woodworking and talked on and on about all the money I poured into this project or that one, all the delicate work, all the difficulties I faced and the solutions I came up with, I suspect nobody would think it was frippery.

I am not so dumb to be goaded into a TOS violation by saying you don't have to read this thread. :) But it is a little insulting to read people writing about how your hobby is strange or odd or is a waste of money or whatever. I mean, I haven't posted any comments about your hobbies, have I? :P (By the way, if your hobby gives you a lot of satisfaction, that's the most important thing.)

I like to think of this as a positive little corner where fellow hobbyists can share their interests and finds. Like Suave men's body wash.

If you spent money on ANYTHING other than garage or estate sales, TB would think you were bonkers.  Just sayin.  He's not even the cheapest person he knows, and that's saying something.

I have to say that eating better has improved my face so much more than just the right products.  I drink more water too and really the only location I get zits anymore is my chin (masks) top of my cheekbones (masks) and between my brows (oily spot).. occasionally on my temples but that's from moving my hair out of my face.

My hands though, are suffering.  i have eczema between my fingers and they're so dry.  I wash them so much at work, and use lotion, but I really need to find some gloves I can use all the time that are dexterous enough for fine tasks like giving change and thin enough to get paper, but don't make my hands sweat like nitrile or vinyl gloves.  the hard part is I have small hands with short fingers.  Most small women's gloves will fit the width of my hand but I'll be able to fold the fingers over. 🤦🏻‍♀️

You guys are lucky that you have eyebrows to pluck. I basically have almost non-existent eyebrows...they're like patchy and bald, and half platinum blonde/half dark blonde, which is weird because my hair is a much darker blonde/light brown and I have an incredibly thick head of hair, so it makes no sense. I think in most photos of myself, it just looks like I don't have eyebrows at all, or just like "ghost eyebrows" that you'll only notice if you look hard. There's really no fix for it except penciling in, which I don't like either.....I'm just at peace with looking weird these days. :D

my best friend is like you only she's got black hair right now (but she's naturally blonde.)  She turned to microblading.  Once it faded the first time it was fantastic.  Has great brows all the time vs the patchy ones she had before.

edit... I see we discussed this later on.. lemme see if i can find a photo of the friend before and after.

I have a touch of eczema on my hands too. There are three products I can recommend: (1) Skinfix Eczema+ hand repair cream; (2) O'Keefe's Working Hands (in the jar, not the tube); and (3) Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream. My husband has eczema on his lower legs and when he isn't having a flare up bad enough for prescription cream, he uses O'Keefe's Eczema body cream. Sometimes I find a little petroleum jelly on a bad spot rubbed in at night gives a lot of relief.

Eating well and drinking a lot of water really are key, aren't they? I ate so much junk in December and into the first part of January because my husband was gone for 3+ weeks over Christmas. I started off well and then I began ordering in half the time. I also had the big box of British Christmas food we'd ordered so I ate a ton of the more perishable stuff when he changed his plans and didn't come home for another week after when he'd plan to return. I went back to eating well a few weeks ago and my skin looks so improved. That and more sleep.

My husband has quite bad eczema and he's tried almost everything. He says the best thing so far that seems to actually help is Moon Valley Organics Herbal Eczacalm. Another one he likes is Egyptian Magic cream (labeled as "all purpose skin cream"), which is made of mostly bee and honey byproducts products. I keep wanting him to do an oatmeal bath for his hands and feet but because he loves oatmeal he feels bad about wasting it and would rather eat it. :D But I do think an oatmeal bath is worth trying.

We’ve decided to get a water softener so that should also help, except that most of my hand washing is done at work. I use palmers cocoa butter lotion and it works well but just washing my hands so much is insane. I really just need gloves.

We handle a lot of cash at work and things are dirty and dusty plus oil and battery acid and other mechanical fluids.

I never had eczema in my life, until early this month. After 8 months of constant hand sanitizer, my hands broke out in itchy, scaly bumps. I dialed down on the hand sanitizer and started applying plain old petroleum jelly. All good now.

Don’t bother. Well you may be planning on being single for the rest of your life so unless you meet some extreme coupon person to marry, perhaps not being the worlds cheapest human isn’t a great goal.

I would respectfully like to submit that I met my USC fiancé on a forum known for its extreme cheapskates, and it is my lifelong dream to try extreme couponing in the States.

That said, we do not cheap out on good food, travelling, and caring for our families. To stay on topic, I spend good money on nice sunscreen.

Well you may have been well suited for tbone.  But he does cheap out on food so if a coupon accompanying date to Burger King sounds up your alley, at least you know of a good alternative if things don’t work out with your husband. However be aware you’d need to buy sunscreen from garage sales or dollar tree.

(I enjoy teasing tbone btw. I was surprised to see any number other than 1 or 2 from him in the thread! )

Speaking of sensitive skin, any recommendations for sunscreen?

I've been so used to great Japanese and Korean sunscreens. Regular American brands just fall short. They're much stickier, often leave a white cast, irritate my eyes, smell awful, and are generally much more annoying to apply compared Asian sunscreens.

All else fails, when I move to the States I'm stuffing one of my suitcases with my staple Bioré Watery Gel. It's SPF 50/PA++++, sinks into the skin without any stickiness, doesn't smell, doesn't sting my eyes, and is cheap. I can get it cheaper here compared to Amazon US prices.

My wife has super duper sensitive skin, so she uses this for her sunscreen.  She used to wear the actual Sun Bum sunscreen, but noticed using the baby stuff helped her with her skin.
