Interesting article in the Guardian:

Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s the patriarchy

The more makeup you wear, the less human you seem. That’s the rather depressing conclusion of a new study published in the journal Sex Roles, which looked at how cosmetics influence the way we perceive women. Researchers asked 1,000 people (most of whom were from the UK and the US) to evaluate women’s faces with and without heavy makeup. They found that both male and female participants rated women wearing a lot of makeup as less human, less warm and less moral. Gotta love that internalized misogyny!

The study’s findings are even worse for those who prefer a dramatic smoky eye to a loud lipstick; “faces with eye makeup were attributed the least amount of warmth and competence.”

“It might be that faces with heavy makeup are perceived as possessing less human-like traits because they are visually processed in a way that resembles how most objects are processed,” Philippe Bernard, the study’s lead author, explained. Bernard, a researcher at the Free University of Brussels further noted that while there’s a growing body of research showing how sexualized images prompt the dehumanization of women, less attention has been paid to “whether subtler forms of sexualization such as makeup” influence objectification. As it turns out, all it takes for a woman to be reduced to an object is a touch too much eyeliner.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

I really like my make up forever foundation.

KVD makes a killer primer but her eye liners aren't great... which is surprising when you consider the source.

I'm currently looking for a new liquid liner that's easy to use.  Debating go the brush and pot route.

So, I made the switch some time ago and do not regret it. I use the Nars cake eyeliner and I also repurpose dark eyeshadows into eyeliner. If you are confident with using a brush, do it! It opens up so many options in terms of color, since you can also use eyeshadows.

I generally go for a natural look; for nighttime and special occasions, I will get something a little more dramatic. I went through a phase at the end of last year when I was doing cateye eyeliner with a very subdued rest of the face, but... I'm kind of over it at the moment.

I bought this for Alex and he seems to like it: https://www.getjackblack.com/Products/Supreme-Cream-Road-Warriors-3-Pack__8083.aspx

It was kind of a halfway house between the Gillette stuff he was using that I thought was leaving him too dry, and the Penhaligon stuff that I wanted to get him, but (1) too expensive (2) "poncey" and (3) used by my ex before he started growing out his beard so no.

Well Gillette is out for obvious reasons. Seams a bit OTT ordering it by mail. Save the tax I suppose.

My dad uses the Clinique men's shaving set and has for years. You could try that, too.

Nivea Gel is what I am about to run out of, forget where I got it, probably on offer. Not that bad.

I get better "amount" control with Nivea Cream vs. Gel.

Walgreens typically has Nivea, and perhaps also so does CVS (but too expensive there).

Sunday paper had coupons for Nivea products, if I recall.

Newspapers? Well apart from the County rag most of whose coverage relates to the High School sports I think the local Supermarket has a few copies of WaPo on a Sunday, the likes of the Denver Post disappeared from sale a long time ago.

I deem your use of Nivea products as acceptable. Just so you know. :P

It is Alex's birthday today and I am not posting just yet what I have selected for him as presents (since he is now looking at my posts <_<) but one of them is grooming-related. I will report back later with reactions. And no, it's not a soap shaped like a sandwich.
