This is the most entertaining thread I've read on VJ, and I'm not a beauty person.  I'm just too lazy.  Occasionally I do try something though, and I recently fell in love with Pacifica's bedtime lip treatment.  I have chronicly dry lips, and this actually works for me.  Any other vegan favorites out there?  (I only read about the first 10 pages of this thread, so I apologize if I missed something.)

Welcome! If you want to feel insane, read my product diary above from a day I felt like really indulging myself like I was actually going somewhere. (I did not.)

I have not tried the Pacifica bedtime lip treatment but will look it up. In terms of vegan favorites ... some that have been discussed on here are the KVD palettes, including the Shade + Light eyeshadow and contour/highlight ones. I also love Milk Makeup, in particular I am a fan of their Kush lip balms (https://www.sephora.com/product/kush-lip-balm-P440645?icid2=products grid:p440645:product) -- I adore the Bubble and Nug colors. They are very moisturizing and give just the slightest color. Oh, and Tarte products I think are all vegan -- Park Avenue Princess is THE perfect bronzer, in my opinion. I like matte when it comes to bronzer (I'm shiny naturally and sometimes I swear you can see me glow from Neptune) and that bronzer delivers matte and is very buildable.

Just to say that if you are a member of the Sephora Beauty Insider program and you haven't selected your birthday gift yet, I can recommend the Briogeo set. I'm Rouge so I got another option above the ones for the lower tiers, but right now my hair needs a little more -- I haven't had a haircut since February and the ends are getting to be a total disaster. I got the set last month but I only finally got around to using it. The charcoal scalp shampoo felt nice when I was massaging it in, but my hair didn't feel particularly clean when I rinsed it. Decided to put my faith in the conditioner and OMG. The Don't Despair Repair hair mask is sooooo good! It made my hair soft, manageable and seemed to somehow zip up my split ends. Love it!

I went and saw my Stylist a few weeks ago, just a trim.

She was seeing existing clients but not new ones.

I am not a member of the Insider Programme, should I be?

It's free to join. :) And you get a biannual discount as well, along with the birthday gift.

My stylist has emailed me twice asking if I'll come in. He said I could have the first appointment in the morning if I'm worried about the space being sufficiently sanitized. Very tempting and I will keep an eye on infection rates. I was reading about how blowouts might not be a good idea at the moment though, what with the air potentially blowing particles all over the place.

Now I do not have  a Blowout, just a cut.

Hmm need to give it some consideration.

Well, I have hair that needs blowing out generally because of the weird wave pattern that I don't like very much. On the other hand I don't live far from the salon and could just go home and dry it myself.

Beauty in the time of COVID19 means so many new decisions! This is the article I read this morning that made me think of the blowdry issue: https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/hairdressers-told-ditch-blow-dry-18427126

I like glamour without the fuss.

Today I only wore sunscreen and lip balm, which is low fuss for me. I admit to being higher maintenance. :innocent:

Well that would get attention. Hopefully a warm day.

I go through stages of being really on it when it comes to skincare/makeup...and then really, really lax. Covid has been a lax period 😩.

One product I would definitely shout out though, for anyone that gets breakouts, is the Derma-e charcoal mask - it's a clay/charcoal mask, that also doubles as an exfoliant - and it's so effective on spots and oil - yet also leaves your skin really soft. Because of covid-stress, I've been having breakouts and this mask has been a lifesaver (face saver). You also only need a small amount, so it's pretty good value.

I only wear a small amount of makeup and brought supplies with me from the UK...however, when they run out, I would definitely like some recommendations of good replacements, ones that are equipped to deal with LA sunshine. The catch is though - they have to be vegan and not tested on animals.

I think the main things I'll be looking for is a good BB cream - and possibly a powder too - I used Bare Minerals powder in the UK, so may continue using their mineral veil, but we'll see...

Annnnd, relating back to an earlier discussion re tinted lipbalm, this stuff is amazing (quality, colour and ethics are all top drawer), but I think it's only available in the UK...fortunately that's what momma-bears are for (lip balm care packages):

First up, welcome and thank you for the tips, especially the one about the charcoal mask. Buying today, coronacne is real. 😕

In terms of recommendations I can help. Born and raised here in the LA area so I know what the particular requirements are for this climate. I have combo skin that tends to be more oily than combo these days, plus I have rosacea, so I look for gentle products that are up to the task. Vegan and cruelty free are definitely things that are pretty easy to come by now in the marketplace in an effective and awesome product. Let me put my thinking cap on for a BB and powder. I love these kinds of challenges! :) I have a couple of products in mind but I want to check their background.

Thanks, that would be awesome!

Just to give a bit of background - in the UK, I wore a regular SPF moisturizer (non-tinted) and then used a Bare Minerals powder foundation- and then the mineral veil powder on top...problem I found was, when I was here a few years ago over summer, I'd end up with a sweaty face where my sunglasses rested...and makeup would end up smearing there, which a) looks rubbish and b) makes me worry about my pores getting clogged. I'd also get drier skin than in the UK, which is down to the air con, but powder probably doesn't help.

I thought that may be down to using a double powder, which is what made me think an SPF BB cream and just mineral veil might work better (I say I thought that, a friend suggested it, but I'm cool with taking the credit 😂).

Basically, I want a coverage that's natural-looking, but is less likely to smear and block my pores. And has SBF. And won't make me greasy. Or dry. Or not vegan. Or a bloke.

I think at some point I need to talk to my wedding makeup artist, cause my makeup was still immaculate 12 hours after she did it...and I danced and partied HARD for at least 5 of those hours. I'm guessing there was some sort of finishing spray (and witchcraft) involved.

Don't know how LA compares to where you were from, but extrapolating from 1 week as a tourist in London in late summer 2016 vs normal life in San Diego, coastal SoCal is much drier than the UK (you wouldn't think that being right on the Pacific, but it is).
