A construction worker in Florida has been accused of murdering his pro-Trump boss with a trowel after a political argument on the construction site where they both worked and then throwing an American flag on the man’s body.

The incident occurred on Monday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. when emergency dispatchers received a call from co-workers saying that Mason Trever Toney, 28, had stabbed and killed their boss, 28-year-old William Steven Knight on the Florida Turnpike job site, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by ABC News’ Orlando affiliate WFTV.

The guy thought the government was out to get him? He thought the witnesses were terrorists? Might be more than politics going on here.

I heard about this on the radio today. The guy was supposedly very anti government and they apparently knew each other very well.

Plus the mom of the murdered man said she it wasn't about politics -- the accused man has been very unwell and not right in the head.

Am I open to the idea that there was some political aspect to it? Sure. But again, I like to know more before I assume things.

Like... a crazy person with a trowel?  Sounds VERY similar to a crazy person with a gun to me.  Am I alone in seeing the parallel?

I do see the parallel. Assuming I only had my trusty 24 lb sledge hammer for defense, I'd rather face off against a guy with a trowel than a loaded weapon. I still think better access to mental health care might be the solution to both issues though.

I believe that people who truly NEED mental health care are not going to be the ones seeking it on a regular basis.

Having worked in that field years ago, the problem is sometimes that the people who really need care don't really know they need care. I had a friend who ended up being diagnosed with schizophrenia several years ago. He's great when he's taking his meds but he's just out there when he's not. When that happened, he didn't really have the capacity to do anything about it at that point. Eventually the cops would pick him, he'd get back on medication and he'd realize how bad it was. I think better access earlier would have been helpful.

Yeah, that's one tragedy, and very sorry to hear that your friend suffered so.  Sadly, not all who NEED help recognize that they do.  Much the same as with alcoholics.

It's actually pretty standard that within about 5-10 feet of someone a heavy object (such as a trowel) or a knife is better defensive/offensive than a firearm is.

There was a political aspect to it but the aspect was about the government as a whole and not about Trump. The guy probably wore a tinfoil hat while at home in order to stop the mind rays

I have a family member who used to be married to a guy who seemed pretty normal when they got together, but slowly went downhill after they got better internet access than dial up (this was about 15 years ago). Totally convinced of government mind rays coming into the house. The last straw for my family member was when she came home from a business trip to discover he'd wallpapered the sun porch in tinfoil and had set up a tent in there. Also lined in tinfoil.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Libertarian, I think. But I remember he was seriously stanning Ron Paul when I went to visit them in 2007. I have no idea who he votes for now, she divorced him not much later than that.
