Incorrect.......Work does NOT have to be paid......even Grandparents caring for their Grandchildren could be considered work.

I don't mean anything bad about it. Sorry if I said it in a wrong way. What I'm trying to say is, I am not going to USA to work and earn money. Just wanna spend sometime with the kid before I start my college which will be 3 months after she'll go back to USA.

I'm not talking about you taking care of her right now; that's totally fine and great that you can do that for them.

In the US, you are not allowed to work on a visitor visa. And work does not necessarily mean paid work. If you are doing something that a US citizen or resident could do and get paid for, it's work. So if you will be at their house all day babysitting their child while they go to work, you are considered to be working, even if they don't pay you. Be very careful with this.

Thank you this is really helpful :)

It doesn't hurt to try, if you can afford it. You'll have to show evidence that you intend to leave the US, and starting college might be sufficient.

Just be aware that there is a fine line between "taking care of the child" and "spending time with the child". Know the difference, and make sure you use the right words during your interview.

No apology needed.....😁  I hope you succeed in getting your tourist visa to the US, but the parents should make plans in case you don't.

It's difficult to prove a negative......Back on point......To obtain a visitor visa you MUST show strong ties to your country to convince the Consulate Officer that you will leave the US after your visit.  In your case, that might be a challenge......but you risk only the $160USD.

EDIT:  It might be easier after you are actually attending classes in Canada.

Will a property under my name and Bank Statement will help?

If the purpose of the trip is to watch over the child, then yes, that would fall under child care which is work. This is something that would normally be fulfilled by a US authorized worker.

If it is just spending time with the child while you visit the US, then that's fine.

Don't cross the line from visiting to working.

Thank you for this :)

As said there is only one way to find out, apply and hope for the best but in my view you have less chances of getting approved for two reasons.

1. Your age and unemployment: This is kinda a negative factor. I don’t think your admission approval from a Canadian university with pending visa application affects US visa approval.

2. Going to the US for the kid: That’s also a negative factor. Taking care of her while she transitions her life from you to her parents seem like working.

But you never know, you could be one of those lucky ones. Trying doesn’t hurt.

This help alot. Thank you! :) I did hospital internhips for 6 months and review 6 months for National board exam ( licensure) and couple of months to review for Medical Admission test. That explains my age and unemployment, will I be needing to explain about my unemployment in the interview?

You're welcome. I truly hope you succeed. Sounds like you are just trying to make the transition as easy as possible for this little girl, which is great.

Hopefully you now have a better understanding of what you can and cannot do with a tourist visa, which will help you prepare for your application and interview.

Good luck!

Interview could go any way, they may not look at any materials you bring or give you any time for any explanation.

One example:

CO: Why are you planning to go to the US?

You: (your response)

CO: What do you do?

You: (your response)

CO: we cannot approve your visa. Thank you.
And they’ll close the window.

That’s it.

i suggest just apply for it if you really wanna apply, bring whatever documents you want to bring , just don’t overthink it.

Best bet is to show that you will be paying your own way, I can not work out if you are employed, hopefully you are, so a letter from your Employer showing your holiday duration may help.

Work = paid. I never got paid so I don't consider it as a work. The child has been observed as having some anger management problem and she's been depending on me. Parents think that it will have a negative impact on her if I won't be there while they slowly take over. At the same time I am free and still waiting for my student visa in Canada and Yes, I'm currently taking care of her but the parents want to take over soon after reaching USA.

Nope. You are wrong. Babysitting is considered work and people have been denied because of it. There was a news report about this a few years ago. See below.
