Summary:

President Donald Trump may expand his controversial travel ban with an announcement expected as early as Monday, the three-year anniversary of the original order, which targeted several majority-Muslim nations.

The list of countries is not yet final and could be changed, but nations under consideration for new restrictions include

Belarus,

Myanmar (also known as Burma),

Eritrea,

Kyrgyzstan,

Nigeria,

Sudan

and Tanzania,

according to two people familiar with the matter.

Isn't the main reason for the countries on the original list for being included the fact that getting relevant documents needed for background checks, or criminal history, is almost impossible?  Not sure why these new countries are being proposed, but I suspect it may be for similar reasons.

I shared the information because I hadn't seen anyone discussing it on VJ yet - some might appreciate the heads up.

Security and/or political factors on how the list is built, or if it's an efficient way to proceed, I don't know - not too many details in the initial articles.

It's not a bad idea to share it.  It is interesting of the countries on the list especially Belarus, and it would be good to find out more of the reasons.  Overall, I am sure if this actually is written into an EO, some judge will grant a stay a few minutes after the EO is signed.

I know if you want to apply for a US Visa in Belarus you have to go to a bank in Ukraine. . . That is never a good sign.

Unlike the travel restrictions currently in place, the new rules could limit certain immigrant visas from the additional countries, said a US government official -- essentially creating a partial immigration ban, CNN reported earlier this month.

Interesting, wondering which countries this may impact.

Under the proclamation, which will take effect on February 21, the US will suspend the issuance of visas that can lead to permanent residency for nationals of Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar and Nigeria, acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said during a call with reporters on Friday. The visas affected are distinct from non-immigrant visitor visas, which will not be impacted by the ban, Wolf said.

The US government will stop issuing "diversity visas" to nationals of Sudan and Tanzania, Wolf said.

I had to dig this up at Aljazeera to get any kind of real reporting on the new travel ban. Just a fair warning they are still calling this a "Muslim Ban" that is drawn up by "White Nationalists"

Well :

Steve Miller was the architect of the plan and he has said some very alt-right things. He does not belong in the Whitehouse.

Muslims have been disproportionately affected and the numbers of Muslims coming to America has dropped precipitously after the ban was put in place. I am sure some Jews and Christians were caught up in the ban but if one did intended to have a Muslim ban, mission accomplished.

Too bad Saudis are not in that ban, mostly Shia's
