Courtesy Letter to Applicant - Medical

Hi y’all,

Received a “Courtesy Letter to Applicant” stating that, after reviewing my I-485 application, the evidence was deficient - specifically mentioning the lack of a complete I-693.

The letter says that i’ll either receive an interview notice or a RfE and that I’ll need the medical by then. In the collective experience of AOS applicants, does this letter mean that an interview notice should be coming soon? Would it be desirable to do the medical done before I get any further correspondence or should I wait to hear more from USCIS?

Thanks!

I just received this same exact letter last month. From my understanding, receiving this courtesy letter means that the status will soon change to "the case is ready to be scheduled for an interview." After I received the letter, it took three days for my status to change to that. Since an interview can be scheduled at any time (I think they give you at least four weeks advance notice), I scheduled my medical exam right away. It takes up to two weeks to get the completed form by a civil surgeon, so you should find a civil surgeon near you to schedule it as soon as possible.

actually it doesnt take 2 weeks to complete the I-693. you just have to find the right doctor. i had my results turned over in 1 day.

Wow, that's fast. Mine actually took a week. I think it depends on where you go.

I 100% agree on that

Had my I-693 only last week. Exam, vaccinations, blood work and urine sample. Got a call 2 days later letting me know I can pick my paperwork up.

I would take a little time to call each surgeon. The one I selected seemed very thorough, read all my medical notes and even commented on vacations I have in the past 2 years that qualify to cover some needed of immigration. He also gave me an option of where I could get my blood work completed and the fees at each location. It is not cheap!!

I certainly paid more than you, paid around $220 for the exam. Great deal you got yourself.

The only reason I had to pay for extra vaccines was the UK medical records they sent across were missing my child immunisations so I have to have MMR and flu as we are in season. I was just a lot easier to have it done there and then. I could have gone to CVS, then come back.

They did also check all the paper works as well before, as they spotted an error on one of the pages, I crossed something out. So I was happy with the service. Just hope the sealed envelope tells Mr USCIS that we are all clear 😲

Along with the vaccines mentioned on the USCIS website, were there any apart from the flu shot that they recommended you get there and then?

Pretty up-to-date with most of my other vaccines as I have been an avid traveller but I'm trying to get out of having any more if i can help it.

Nope. He was a little sorry to have to give me the flu jab but explained I chose the wrong time of year to see him.

a little more research after told

me that CostCo(!!!!) can get you the least cost fly jab.

Mine was $200 for exam plus extra for one shot and lab tests. My husband's insurance didn't cover any of the vaccines or lab tests - thanks to the ridiculously high deductible that is nearly impossible to meet. If you have a high deductible like us (or crappy health insurance), It's good to call your insurance ahead of time to check whether your particular insurance covers the shots and/or tests. Most places where I am (Boston, MA) give you the choice of whether you pay up front or they billing the insurance. I unfortunately had to go with the first choice.
