G-1145, what is it?

Hi all,

 

I'm currently in the process for getting a CR1, immigrating from Canada to America. I asked my lawyer about the G-1145 form and if we could send one in because i would like text/email notifications about the visa progress. She said it's not a form for electronic visa progress notifications, it's for paying government fees with a credit card. But online it clearly shows it's for notifications....So my question is, what is the G-1145? She mentioned that I get instructions for electronic notifications in the mail along with the receipt number, which i haven't gotten yet and we filed January 10th.

Your lawyer is confusing G-1145 with G-1450.

 

honestly you don’t really need an attorney to file for a CR-1. You can get all the info you need on here and from users here. It’s up to you of course, but I suggest you save your cash. Having a lawyer doesn’t make anything faster. 
 

G-1145 is for notification.

We've already paid them and sent off the I-130, so we're stuck with them now haha. I guess I'll wait until I finally get the NOA1 and then ask about the electronic stuff again.

An attorney can be fired at any time in the process.......your attorney is absolutely incorrect if she said the G-1145 is "not a form for electronic visa progress notifications, it's for paying government fees with a credit card. "

 

Ask her where you enter the credit card info on the G-1145......

Just my 2 cents but I would not want to keep an attorney if they didn't even know what the e-notification form is..

Too late for the g-1145 anyhow.  Once you get your NOA1 you sign up for notifications online.  The g-1145 was just for the intial NOA1.  

Fire the lawyer. Get a partial refund.  They're obviously not an immigration lawyer.

Yeah, she said it's not necessary since you just sign up once you get the NOA1. She's done hundreds of these cases, i don't know.

You would have gotten an email with the NOA1 instead of having to wait for the paper version.

At this point, I'm okay with that. We've beem waiting for 3 years, we've gotten pretty good at patience 😂

Everyone thinks that at the start..but your patience starts to run very thin quickly when waiting for everything in this process 🤪
