It can feel like pulling teeth but if you persist you can usually find out the reason for the denial.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Which you can EASILY spend traveling to see your wife/family or simply supporting them.

I would happily give up $1225 to have my fiance with me 6-8 months sooner.

Which is why the K1 should be the option of those whose main concern is time spent apart and for whom the obvious downsides of this visa might not matter that much. That said, the K1 is still an inferior visa that places the immigrant spouse in a limbo. Given the OP's background, I am assuming he has a career and K1s are notorious for putting careers on hold, for one.

Most people 'fall back' on the CR1 to overcome a K1 issue, and spend even more time waiting.  I would say, an average person should not have an issue getting a K1 is all the Ts are crossed and Is are dotted.

The referenced remark was not so much about obtaining a K-1 vs CR-1. There are some differences in which the CR-1 is better there (mainly the ability to reaffirm the petition, OR if there are questions of one's ability to demonstrate being free to marry), but otherwise eligibility requirements for one or the other is essentially the same.

It was about the drawbacks of the K-1 visa process itself - namely the entire time from entry to AOS approval, especially if something goes wrong during that time.

It wouldn't surprise me that the NVC will flag a file, ship it to the Consulate just to have THEM reject the applicant.  Look at the top of the first page on the I-129F... Action Block?  'Field Investigation'?  What codes can be put in there?

NVC doesn't have the authority to reject it (or flag it for scrutiny or whatever). They are just a middleman in the process between USCIS and the consulate here. They should not be modifying the I-129F as it is not their document, nor reviewing the merits of the case in any way. I have no idea how they would even do so in the few days they even have it.

As for the cited thread.. something is not being told.  The CO denied based on not a bona fied relationship.   How would they ever come to that conclusion at the consulate?

I have become a bit skeptical of posters when they say they have no idea why the K1 was denied while at the Consulate.

Agreed.

Sorry if it wasn't clear - I was referring to the referenced comments about the K-1 visa/process, not so much the OP's case and why it was denied.

Boiler and Feito/Feita,

I wasn't required to purchase another ticket. I had a return ticket with Delta and they appear to have put me on the same flight back (just several days ahead of when it was due to depart). Never received a charge for this change, assumed was just an adjustment of existing return ticket

There is no stamp in my passport, they did however handwrite in small letters on the first page of the passport  the following:

NEW, the date of the arrival/interview by officer at airport, the file number that appears at the top of my I-877 record of sworn statement and  the airport code NWR along with 7A1 underneath it

Just confirms my initial view.

But in our case if we had done a K-1 and I couldn’t work for 4 months (for example) we would have lost over $24,000 in income. Not to mention that in my line of work for every week you are “out of action” it takes 4 weeks to get back in. I would have been left behind if I’d not worked for 4 months.
