Hi,

I just want to make sure i'm filling out the correct form. My husband and I live in NZ, myself being the US citizen. I have zero income as i'm a stay at home mother. My parents who make above the threshold will be sponsoring us as well as housing us when we move. Do my parents need to fill out the I-864 or the I-864a form? Any other advice for this situation would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Your parents was co-sponsor. You're will be the petitioner as well as the main sponsor, so you will need one I-864. your parents as co-sponsor will need one I-864 and one I-864a for household.

I am using my step-dad as our joint sponsor since I don't work. He makes well above the required amount. Does my mom still need to fill out the I-864A since she's in the same house?

Cheers

Hi, I have another question that hopefully you can help with. We are at the NVC stage, fees paid, awaiting forms to be released. Will they need to fill out the 864 online or on paper?

I-864 needs to be signed in wet ink. So you can fill all of it online, print, sign, scan and upload as a PDF.

Yes, but make sure they sign and date their forms in the correct places first.

A couple terminology issues to deal with here.

One parent will be Joint sponsor.  They other will the the joint sponsor's household member.  "Cosponsor" is not a valid term in a spouse visa case.

I-864 forms are not "filled out online".  You don't have to download the form, but I recommend it, because that way you can save after completed.  Some of that is just semantics.  Once completed either by typing in the form or writing on the blank printed form, it is signed and dated, scanned, then emailed to whomever is doing the uploading.

You do not need to wait for affidavits of support to be released.  You can download them and their respective instructions from USCIS.gov anytime you want.
