Hello everybody!

I'm ready to file my taxes this year, and have been using TurboTax for the past 2 years to do so. For the tax year 2018, I qualified as Head of Household (and still do). When going all the way to the end, TurboTax says I need to review my personal info (husband's SSN) but it does allow me to e-file. I wanted to confirm if I need to file by mail, and add NRA in the 'spouse's SSN' column on the 1040 (or if I can e-file without that)

Thanks!

Did TurboTax allow alpha characters in the formerly only numeric field (SSN)? It depends on their programming of the software for 2019.  If the SSN is not filled in, the IRS computer could reject the efile. It just depends on what they have done for 2019. It used to not be possible to enter NRA is why people have said you have to print and mail.

So regardless of the filing status, that field needs to be filled in? I doubt it's going to allow non-numeric values, guess I'll just have to mail it in!

Try it and see what happens.

Didn't let me do it! I printed out the form and will be mailing it.. I don't have to print my spouse's name, do I? Haven't seen any instructions for that for HoH :(
