Go to the social security office and apply for a number. Of if u already checked to get a SSN on arrival then say it never arrived and you need to request a replacement card.

If needed ask your spouse to accompany you and help with translation/explanation etc.

What kind of answer did you receive which was not accurate?

You should fill out your visa timeline.

If you have a LPR card, you should be able to apply for a SSN with the valid LPR card. Check in again with your local social security office, and make an appointment regarding your situation.

You do have permission to work via the LPR card, and you can work for up to 90 days without providing a SSN to your employer, but you must include as much personal information about you as you can to your employer.

Next time you go to a SS office, just apply for the new card, forget about the past application and don’t even ask about that.

I am not sure if that is a good idea... What if the other application eventually gets approved? Are they going to catch that he already has a number or they will give another one?

Sorry to hear that.

Did u arrive as a LPR or adjusting status from a different visa?

Also u can try calling the main SSA number and talk there with a representative.

Today is MLK day so they might not be working.

Also if u go back to the SSA ask for a supervisor....

If one is approved, they won’t issue him another one or issue a new card with the same SSN. Nothing to lose here.

Yes it does. Why? It might happen that the SSA office can't verify his/her status with USCIS/DHS and he/she ended up in the manual verification process and felt through the cracks... Hence this enormous delay.
