Here’s something in all the USCIS instructions

Translations. If you submit a document with information in a foreign language, you must also submit a full English translation. The translator must sign a certification that the English language translation is complete and accurate, and that he or she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English. The certification should also include the date, the translator’s signature and printed name, and may contain the translator’s contact information.

There used to be a sample statement provided that I can’t find now. I haven’t ever heard of anybody who was refused on a non-paid translation, but I have heard of holdups if the foreign language document was not with translation. Be sure to bring both.

We translated our own documents, including police certificates, from Dutch and Spanish to English. They were accepted without any issue.

We provided a statement complying with the quoted text saying we were fluent in <language> and English and that the translation was true and accurate. There are templates online that can be found.

sigh ......

So this is the reply I got from Consular Information Unit to my email of waiting 23 weeks and noting other people who got their I-130s months after me have their LND numbers:

"Thank you for your email.

We understand your frustration. Due to COVID-19 we are experiencing a significant backlog and our colleagues in the Immigrant Visa Unit are working hard during this time. They will contact you directly with information on how to proceed with the case in due course. Please be patient and bear with them.

Sincerely"

Great ...... so how long do I wait? Weeks longer? Months? Years? There is just no information anywhere on my case. This is becoming so frustrating I cant put it into words.

Very similar to the responses I've received.

No information offered and no one to talk to about it.

I got the same response as well. I replied back that I know others have gotten theirs, that I felt ours may be lost in the post and that I know they can email the number. We will see if they say anything

Yup, I also replied back with pretty much the same thing. I appreciate the COVID-19 delay, but something just doesn't stack up that people from March have not got their LND numbers yet when people from June have.

I'm hoping the fact that its not just me chasing them might mean they'll actually look into it. Fingers crossed.

It seems bizarre to me that people (such as myself) who received their I-130 approvals weeks after you did have received their LND numbers. I initially wondered whether they were working backwards (i.e. from the top of a huge pile of approvals handed over by the USCIS Field Office), however, Stuwoolf's approval date was the same as mine and he hasn't heard anything. Perhaps it's just the luck of the draw and dependent on which IVU officer picks up your envelope? Nobody really knows for sure unfortunately.

As a comparison, in July 2019 there were 169 spouse visas (IR1/CR1) issued. Last month they issued 107 spouse visas. Considering the circumstances, I don't think they're doing too badly.

Well they responded to me with: We can assure you the letter is not lost in the post. As previously advised, the Immigrant Visa Unit will contact you directly in due course.

Is issuance of 107 visas good performance? I guess it depends on which other visas the Visa Unit is issuing. I thought it was only Spouse and Student Visas right now? It would be interesting to learn the ratio or percentage comparison of Spouse visas against total visas issued in the last couple of years.

Having said that, for me, the numbers being issued is, at least in part, irrelevant. What is more relevant is the rational of how the applications are being processed eg 23 week wait against a considerably shorter wait for some applications. It does not promote confidence in the system.

An understanding of how things are currently being done and the criteria applied by the Visa Officer to the selection of an application would at least provide an insight.

Nothing in the mail today and the wait continues. Hey ho.

So how do they know its not lost in the post? I guess the only way to confirm is to check if the letter has been sent. By inference this suggests the letter has not been sent!

If they checked to confirm it hasnt been sent, why not just stick the info on the email response to you or, alternatively, explain what the hold up is?

Frustrated? Yes I am!

Ditto here. I sent a message to my congressman, just for the heck of it. I'm sure it won't help, but I have to try something.

I have a question regarding to Joint-sponsor for I-864 because I am still not sure if I need one. So here is our financial situation: I and my husband both worked in the UK for the past 4 years, and have been filing the US tax jointly. My husband got a job offer this year and moved back the US this July to start the new job. So basically we didn’t income in the US until this July. If I have the tax transcripts for year 2017-2019 plus UK payslips(P60), his new job offer letter plus his recent payslips, and the income is above the minimum wage required for affidavit support, do we still need a joint sponsor?
