Okay, so, I got an email from the Consular Info Unit at the embassy asking me a series of questions about my application and situation:

If you are applying for an immigrant visa as the spouse or child of a U.S. citizen (IR-1, CR-1, IR-2 or CR-2) or for an E-3 visa, or writing on behalf of someone applying for such a visa, please answer the following questions:

1.       What is the full name of the visa applicant(s)? Please provide the name(s) in the format SURNAME(S), Given Name(s).

2.       What is the full name of the petitioner? Please provide the name in the format SURNAME(S), Given Name(s).

3.       If you are not the visa applicant or petitioner, please confirm your relationship to the applicant and confirm if Form G-28 has been filed.

4.       What is the immigrant visa case number, if known? (typically LND followed by ten digits)

5.       Was the petition filed with the USCIS Field Office in London or with USCIS in the United States?

6.       What date was the petition approval notice received?

7.       Is the case currently with the National Visa Center (NVC)?

8.       If you have been notified that the file has been forwarded to the Embassy in London, on which date was it sent?

9.       Has the visa applicant electronically submitted the application Form DS-260?

10.   Has the visa applicant gathered all the applicable supporting documents? See https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/required-documents/

11.   Has each visa applicant undergone a medical examination with the Embassy's panel physician in London?

12.   Has an interview appointment been booked for you by NVC or through the Visa Appointment Service? Please briefly give details of any booked or cancelled appointment dates.

13.   Does the visa applicant have urgent need of travel to the United States? Please give brief details.

We will begin reviewing your request as soon as we receive this information. While we appreciate the urgent nature of your request, we cannot give a timeframe for the review nor offer status updates while the review is in process. We process cases as expeditiously as possible. Rest assured that we will inform you of the outcome by email as soon as we can.

It was in response to the email I sent on Monday, so maybe things are actually moving over there  Here's hoping this is the beginning of progress for all of us.

Good to see you at least received a response. Gotta be a step forward. Heres hoping things will begin to pick up momentum.🙂

Good luck. (Lets try to remain positive....says he, the most impatient person ever😒)

Or was it that bit about students?  I know they don't have to apply for exemption anymore.

Actually, from the Visa Medicals website:

  • Appointment letter from the United States Embassy
  • Passport
  • 4 identical passport-sized photographs (four for each applicant, including babies)
  • Medical questionnaire (form IV18a) completed, (one for each applicant, including all children)
  • Police certificate (unless you have already sent original to the Embassy)
  • Spectacles or contact lenses if worn
  • Vaccination records, with original certification
  • For children of 7 or under, the 'Red Book' health record, if available
  • Print-out of medical records summary from GP
  • Copies of GP/specialist reports, if available, for any significant medical conditions, including all psychiatric. If there is any history of TB or tuberculosis contact, please obtain old records, including investigation and treatment details
  • Records for any treatment of STDs
  • When there may be special educational needs, please provide any recent educational, psychological assessments, school reports etc.

So not just the vaccination record, you will need a physical copy of your medical care summary (and any glasses or contacts which I didn't realise!!).

Thank you for sharing this.
I called my GP, however I was told that I don’t have anything recorded there as I have not been having any health issues which required a medical consultation or treatment with them.  Instead they offered me to write me a medical referral letter. Would it be working for visa application? If so, what should I request to be written in the letter? Have anyone here had a similar situation as mine? I only visited the GP for a blood test before but never had any treatments.
Any suggestions will be really appreciated!

Hi,

No, a referral letter won't be accepted unfortunately. Even if you have no active medical issues or medications, your GP should still be able to print off a Summary Care Record (SCR) for you. All patients registered at GPs around the UK have one - it is automatically generated from information that the practice has on file for you (even if you don't have any medical issues or have never seen the GP). If your GP is still confused about this, show them this link: https://digital.nhs.uk/services/summary-care-records-scr

A blank summary shows there are no medical issues that perhaps you are trying to hide. That’s all the clinic wants to check really, that you have been honest when you fill out the two medical questionnaires.

Thank you! I have sent that link to GP, and they will send me one by email next week! :)

Following on from the list posted today concerning docs required for Medical and particularly about the Summary Care Report from my GP, it got me thinking about vaccinations. This list

https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/vaccination-civil-technical-instructions.html#tbl1

indicates I should have Tdap, MMR, Influenza and Varicella (Chickenpox?). I understand the Chickenpox jab is not available in UK. (or is it?) Is this still a requirement? With the exception of Influenza, which I got last December at my job, my GP Surgery has advised it has no record of any vaccinations I have had so I guess in the next few weeks I will resemble a pin cushion. Hey ho.....

The Varicella vaccine requirement is waived for visa applicants from the the UK, and if you had chickenpox as a child then you're immune anyhow, and Visamedicals will take your word for it. I

If you're really not keen on another MMR jab, your GP may be able to measure serum antibody titres - if these are positive (i.e. indicating that you are immune) you wouldn't need a repeat vaccine. There's no harm in getting another vaccine though, and it would probably be less hassle than having a blood test and waiting for the results. The influenza vaccine changes every flu season, so if you have you medical appointment after October 1st, you would need the current season's jab I'm afraid.

The most you will need is two shots if you attend your medical before Oct 1.
Mumps/measles/rubella

Tetanus/Diptheria/Petussis

Waivers* will be given for

  • Varicella (*not readily available or *varicella history)
  • Influenza (*not flu season)

Hey there.

Can anyone qualify whether we just have to prove immunity to Rubella or the whole shebang? Also, can we just get a T/D booster and leave out the Petussis if we had that in childhood? I have a call with my GP nurse this morning so need to know exactly what I should get.

Just to add, I spoke to my practice nurse and although I haven't had a DT/P vaccine in 10 years, I have had all five which according the UK schedule gives lifetime immunity. Is there some discrepancy here?

So I was out having a beer with a friend last week and his friend joined who happened to be a GP. So i handily asked him a few of these things (me being born in the 80's) he said Mumps/measles/rubella I would have had as part of my vaccination plan as a kid and TDP  I may have had but likely would need it again if I hadn't had it in past 10 years which I definitely haven't. So DTP all the way for me.
