We plan to submit some chat logs as an evidence (wife lives overseas and we chat a lot online).  The chats are in Chinese and hence need translations.

Can someone suggest a good format to organize a file with those screenshots + translations?

In the commonly-used "certification of translation", it says " .. certify that ... the attached document is an accurate translation of the document entitled ..." -- this indicates the original document and the translated one are two separate documents, which makes sense for things like birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc...

However, I don't think it is the best way to organize phone screenshots.... Our thinking is for each page, we paste one screenshot and put the translation side-by-side.  This would have better readability compared to dumping all screenshots in one PDF and creating another PDF with all translations. However I could be wrong and USCIS may indeed prefer the other way. Does anyone has experience to share 😛

Using Powerpoint or some presentation app (I used WPS) is the easiest way to prepare, you can make captions using the text box, and overlay text boxes on top of the image with translations and paste and resize the photos in.  It was the simplest method I found, and I was able to get 3 to 4 photos plus a caption for each on every page certain evidence couldn't be shrunk down so it got a page all to its own.  Change the PPT format to portrait and the size of your paper.

Chat logs are very informal evidence, there isn't a required way to do it, I prepared it how I imagined the clerk scanning this stuff in and reading it would prefer, because I didn't want them wasting their time sifting through pages trying to understand my methods.
