The fee to allow you file an

AOS after your I-94 has expired. You have to file a separate form, and the filing fee for it is $1000.

I think it is a TOTAL of $1225. $1140 for the I-485 and $85 for the biometrics.

Read page 12 of the I-485 instructions and page 8 of the I-693 instructions. She does not need to submit an I-693, because she completed her medical overseas and is filing within a year after that medical.

Go through her paperwork; she should have a completed DS-3025 that she has to submit in lieu of the I-693. Even if she doesn't have any proof of her overseas medical, do not get a new I-693 now, because it will have a limited validity and you may end up having to get another one if it takes a long time before she has her interview.

This is confusing for a lot of people (even myself). But, when you do figure it out or if you do end up needing it, The Spot Clinic was the place we used for ours (we did have to get one here for other reasons not similar to yours). We are in the Orlando/Kissimmee area.

She does not need a new medical, and you don't need a civil surgeon to sign off on anything.

Welll....maybe.

The 693 has the vaccination record.  If you did not get/start your shots (you can refuse them) you will then need to get the vaccinations is the US (where they are 100% free).  But the shot record is not the I-693 and the only person who can transcribe them from the medical record to the 693 is a CS.  MOST CS charge a SMALL fee to transcribe (there is actually a thread with people reporting who and costs... search for  "Civil Surgeons who don't rip you off" as the thread topic) them onto the official form without a physical because the original 'K1' screening.

Most overseas CS are ripping people off left and right be saying the shots are required.  THEY ARE NOT.  Not for the K1.  They ARE for the AOS.

Yeah, nice story, but this doesn't apply to the OP's situation. He stated that his wife has completed the medical before moving here, and he seems to think that they need someone to fill out an I-693 for them. But they don't.

I don't agree that civil surgeons are ripping people off. If you're already seeing them for the medical you might as well get any shots done that you need, so you don't have to worry about it when you file AOS, which usually is only a few months later. Not all vaccines are 100% free in the US as you claim.

I don't understand why it's so confusing for people, I know several people who just did a new medical for their AOS even though it was not required and they were never told to do so. That's just throwing away money, and this whole process is already expensive enough.

To me, the instructions are very clear. With a completed medical for the K-1 visa, you do not need a new medical or even a new I-693 for AOS. You should have a DS-3025 that you can send as proof of the completed medical. Even if, for some reason (civil surgeon made a mistake on the form, or some shots are missing, etc), you need to do a new medical, USCIS advices not to do that before filing AOS, because it may expire before you even get to the interview.

In OP's case, a new medical or I-693 is not required, and even if it were, they should not get it done now but wait for the interview.

Okay, so my wife is in the process of applying for her AOS. Her K1 expires January 30, so it is crunch time (we would certainly like to avoid the $1000 fee). I have been guiding her through the steps of this process ever since I filed a petition for her over a year ago. It's gone pretty smoothly overall. She got her K1, moved here in November. We got married a week later. We're working on getting the AOS app in. But I keep running into a wall on one form: the I-693.

Everything I have read tells me that, since she had the medical exam with the panel physician in Ecuador, we don't need a medical exam. But as I call civil surgeon offices here in Orlando, it seems like no one is willing to sign off on the I-693 without also administering the blood tests and things which she has ALREADY received! She has the sealed envelope from the panel physician. But she doesn't have an unsealed copy. So do we just need to go to the civil surgeon office (or make an appointment) and hand them what we have and hope for the best? If we don't need the medical exam (particularly if we can get out for less money, since one income living is difficult in this town) I would like to avoid it. Any ideas or anyone know of a doctor we can turn to in this neck of the woods?

Thanks in advance! VJ has been the best help in this whole process over the last year and some, and I am truly thankful for all of you!

My wife is also from Ecuador she came in July 2019 also had the medical in Guayaquil however she was pregnant so on her DS-3025 stated she will get them done here, we did send the AOS only with the DS-3025 and did not an RFE for that however out of precaution since the DS-3025 stated that, this Monday she will get the vaccines done and we have already an interview on 01/30/2020

My advise file as soon as possible because the waiting time for your interview may vary a lot, get a protective filing date so you get on line for the EAD and travel permit and green card

I copy official instructions from USCIS about the medical for AOS

If you were admitted as a:
A. K-1 fiancé(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fiancé(e); or
B. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen; and
C. You received a medical examination prior to admission, then:
(1) You are not required to have another medical examination as long as you file your Form I-485 within one year of an overseas medical examination; and
(a) The panel physician did not find a class A medical condition during your overseas examination; or
(b) The panel physician did find a class A medical condition, you received a waiver of inadmissibility, and
you have complied with the terms and conditions of the waiver.
(2) Even if a new medical examination is not required, you must still show proof that you complied with the vaccination requirements. If the vaccination record (DS 3025) was not properly completed and included as part of the original overseas medical examination report, you will need to have the Part 10. Vaccination Record completed by a designated civil surgeon. In this case, you must submit Parts 1. - 5., 7., and 10.
of Form I-693.

I’m actually not talking about the filing fee. We have budgeted for that. I am talking about the penalty fee that lets you file if you miss the 90 day deadline. But apparently that is only for missing the deadline to marry not to file.

Thanks for all the responses. To clarify, my wife did get her medical exam done in Ecuador, but we just got her vaccinations yesterday. The guide on this site says we still need to get that signed off on by a civil surgeon on the I-693, but we don’t need the medical exam. I haven’t read all the responses yet, but there seems to be some debate on that point. We do appreciate all the help.

WIth insurance, the copay for a lot of vaccinations is $0. That said, some of the ones needed for immigration may not be covered...in those cases, they are typically more expensive unless you get them at a clinic if one's around.

Either way, getting them abroad is usually cheaper & easier. And avoiding the "hurry to find a CS to sign off on vaccinations only" issue is worth it IMO.

No such fee exists.

If you marry within 90 days, you can do AOS fine based on that. Normal AOS fees apply.

If you marry after 90 days, then an I-130 is also needed. That's an extra $535.

There is no fee due to overstay.

Only thing I can think of is if a waiver is needed...that's around $1000. But no waiver is needed.

Correct. You only need an I-693 signed off by a CS for the vaccinations.

Finding a CS willing to do that can be difficult. You may need to call around. Most don't know and/or don't care about the vaccinations-only option for K-1 holders (K-1 is by far a minority of AOS cases).

I would be interested in a source for this, if you can find it and post it......even if a couple fails to marry in 90 days, but then subsequently marries, the I-130 filing fee is far less than $1000.

Huh, with the federal employee benefits system we have something like 12+ plans to choose from and I think there is only one that would cover anything beyond a flu shot for free, for adults at least. And it’s the most expensive, understandably. The rise of high deductible, or just deductible-based health plans in general made me question where someone could get all the vaccinations asked for covered. That sounds great.

It was definitely much cheaper for my husband to get them abroad. Socialized medicine and what not ;).
