Hi all

Can someone help me get my head in line!

We had our K1 interview last week at the London Embassy. The CO finished the interview by saying ‘everything looks in order’ and after asking about the return of the passport she said ‘we need it to process the visa. It will be back with you in 7 days’.

5 working says later and the case is still on administrative processing and hasn’t been touched for 3 days according to the date.

The CO didn’t use the words ‘approved’ so now my mind is still spinning until I get that visa and passport in hand!

Do I need to get a grip and get my head straight or do I have reason to be anxious?

I see no reason to be anxious, there is no way any delivery can be that specific, things do not work that way, maybe about 7 days would have been better.

No reason to worry.  Even if the Consulate Officer said "Approved", it is meaningless.  Administrative Processing is normal for all cases.  If they expected any real issues, they would have given your passport back to you......relax........

No one can say with any certainty when your visa will be issued. Administrative processing is at its most frustrating when it goes on for several months. Typically this is caused by a consular post waiting for a response on some form of advisory opinion.  We have seen some who have experienced very long delays sometimes beyond a year. But those are rare. Most embassies move within 1-3 weeks. The UK falls in the 1-3 week example. I hate to sing the same tune but patience is what is needed.

So using CEAC this is what you will see just after the interview:

When the Embassy is ready to issue a visa, it will change to "Nonimmigrant Visa Application"; at that time, you will know that you are a few days away from getting the visa. It will go from "Immigrant Visa Application" to "Nonimmigrant Visa Application" status and then your visa changes to "Ready" ==> "Administrative Processing" ==>> "Issued" status as well. These steps sometimes transpire over a day or even a few days. Some smaller Embassy's it happens within hours.

Sometimes, it might skip "Administrative Processing" and go from "Ready" to "Issued".

Thank you! I have just checked and my application is a ‘nonimmigrant visa application’ which seems like a positive!

In all honesty without @Greenbaum I would still be in the same shoes as you.  The government, any government, works at their own pace and nothing in the world will make them work any faster than that.

Trust the process.  Respect the process.  My fiancé and I applied in September of 2018.  We received the holy grail of updates today “issued”.  Without this forum and the admins, I’d be bald and possibly in a mental institution somewhere.

You are dealing with a lot of legal matters so you can’t expect it to be done instantaneously.  Breathe.  If you followed the instructions and provided everything they need to process your case, give them the respect to do so.

interview date was 1/22/20

status changed to issued 1/30/20

Thank you.

Now when you get the passport review it for errors. Make sure everything matches and is correct. Be aware of the validity dates so you are on US soil before the visa expires. First thing you do after arrival is get the SSN in her maiden name. You'll possibly will need it for bank accounts, health insurance and other important transactions. Once married then have the name changed to the married name. There is a section here on VJ that talks abut SSN with guides.
