Does my Armenian marriage certificate need an apostille before I apply?

Hello everyone I hope all of you had a great New Year! My name is Greg, and I just got married on January 9th 2020! : ) We've been together almost 2 years, and saying goodbye kills me every time. 😥 My wife lives in Armenia, pays taxes, and became a citizen of Armenia summer of 2019. She was born in Tehran, Iran and immigrated to Yerevan, Armenia roughly ten years ago. I on the other hand was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was raised in Los Angeles. I have another year and a half of nursing school to go.

I plan on filing in the very near future, I'm assuming the K-3 visa? Forms i130 and i130a. I know our marriage certificate needs to be translated from Armenian, but do I need to get an apostille from there? If so, the translated copy or the original? Sorry for the newb questions. Im praying we can get through this process so we can be together after school... Separation is eating me alive from the inside!

Thanks for any reply!

If memory serves me correctly she is also an Iranian citizen and it is effectively impossible to lose that, just wanted to check as that will complicate issues.

CR1 will be the way to go, K3 is a bad choice and effectively dead. Please read the guides and also those threads dealing with Iran etc.

Yes, but you can translate after, they can't verify the translation, only the official docs.

No Apostille for anything.  K3 is dead.  CR1 is the result you seek after filing the I-130.

Looks like you're mostly right, only some countries they sometimes ask at the embassy level.

That's surprising.

O you will need a certified copy though.

Thanks @pushbrk that helps clear things up a lot. I haven't really seen anyone talking about it, but just wanted to make sure.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

O really?

Here's one where he said passport photos were required but someone proved they were not, but you know what that's fine, no one left him negative comment trying to show him up like you're doing.

You learn something new everyday dontcha.

But let's keep things focused, I never said he was wrong or incorrect, your comment only causes friction between members.

hey babu frik, dude, chill, lol.

fwiw we managed to immigrate an entire family to the US without ever once hearing the word "apostille". My impression therefore is that it is something many other countries require, but not the US.

Photocopies of the original marriage certificate and its English translation are all you need for the spousal visa (CR-1) I-130 petition.  No apostilles for US immigration.  Follow the instructions carefully.  Take original documents to the visa interview later in the process.

Good luck, and congratulations on your marriage!
