so im trying to file my taxes "Married Filing Jointly". for this i know i need a SSN or ITIN to be able to summit along with my taxes. my question is which documents do i need to summit with the W-7 Form? i have the certified passport but it says clearly The passport isn’t a stand-alone document for certain dependents if no date of entry into the United States is present. ( now the passport doesn't have a date of entry since our CR1 Visa interview is scheduled for the 28th of January 2020.. what else should i send alone with the passport? i really want to skip this process but i cannot file married separately neither.. because it also ask me for the SSN or ITIN.

You need a copy of the marriage certificate but it’s not a do it yourself thing.  It has to be through an ITIN acceptance agent.  Unless you are in the US and can go to the Social Security Administration in person. The agent is usually a tax preparer and they can file the return with the W7 (on paper).

Does she have a Colombian national ID, Colombian driver's license, or other document on the following list: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/revised-application-standards-for-itins "What documents are acceptable as proof of identity and foreign status?"

W-7 instructions also state: Your spouse is never considered your dependent.

What's the need to file at an acceptance agent? Just mail in the paper copy of the tax return along with the ITIN application and certified copy of the passport biographic page.

It may have been IRS but either way they wouldn’t let me come in with spouse’s paperwork.  The acceptance agent would.

The need to file at an acceptance agent for me was the ITIN when I submitted for my spouse required an in-person verification with the recipient present.  Not so handy for those awaiting an immigration visa abroad.

ITIN’s aren’t given on request to anyone and everyone, no questions asked.  They want to know why you need it.  A friend who is a professional tax preparer told me I would be filing on paper with the form.  I googled the instructions and thought “we’ll see about that.”

I tried the non-paper way, very stubbornly.  I wasted weeks and in the end, filed on paper through the acceptance agent.  This forum is about benefiting from others’ experience.  Take my advice or go forth after googling it.  No skin off my nose.
