Another medical required?

I‘m a K-1 visa spouse coming from Germany, where I also had my medical examination and received my DS-3025 that says „applicant electing not to be vaccinated at this examination“. Since my medical is still valid, I should not need another one. I do need form 693 and I believe I am missing a few shots too.. but every surgeon I’ve called so far wants me to have another examination and pay full price. I hope someone can help

Yup...not an uncommon occurance.

You are correct that only the vaccinations are required. You need the I-693 completed only for those couple sections. You do NOT need another medical so long as you file within 1 year of the medical.

However, most Civil Surgeons (CS) do not know this. Or they don't care. So finding one that is willing to sign the I-693 without doing a new medical can be difficult.

All you can do is call around until you find one that will do just the vaccination section, or just do a new medical.

Recommendation is to do all vaccinations for the K-1 medical for this reason.

Yeah, its important to have all the vaccinations completed at the initial K1 medical unless theres some reason why this cant be done. I did find at my K1 medical that my nurse was gently pushing me to have them done elsewhere as it would have been cheaper. Well yes, it would have been cheaper in the short term, but to have had my medical marked incomplete would end up costing much more and extra hassle than the $30 difference between the medical costs I could have saved for getting my shots elsewhere.

You will need to get the required vaccinations. You can get them at any major pharmacy in the US or even Walmart, or a doctor or clinic, or you can go to a US civil surgeon to receive them. Either way you will still have to see a US civil surgeon to record them and they will re-certify the I693. You will have to search around to find one that is willing to do this.

Your form is a little blurry to read you need

Td or booster within the past 10 years - cant quite read the date on your upload is it 2005 ? if so you need a booster

MMR - 2 doses in lifetime, looks like you have this

Varicella - you have been vaccinated for this

Influenza - you are missing this one for sure.

In section 2 as you say its been marked as incomplete. so you`ll need flu and maybe Td depending on the date you last had it.

Sorry for the blurry picture, I had to change the document size to upload.
Tdap says 2005 so it’s expired and I need to get that and a flu shot.

thank you for your help

The doctor assistant I just talked to said I also need 2 vaccines for Varicella. I only have one. And if I had to chickenpox, I need a blood test to confirm this she said. I’m confused

Well the dr assistant might not understand you have been vacinnated for it. Its possible they insist on a new round of vaccinations, but i would discuss that with the civil surgeon and the fact that you have been marked as vaccinated on your medical and maybe you also have other documentation to verify it ?

It could well be the case the civil surgeon insists that you are tested and then vaccinated again before they sign off on it. This is crossing into the field of medical expertise and i cant help you with that.
