Hi everyone.

My husband's case has been in AP for  more than 4 years in US embassy in Kabul Afghanistan. Now his case date changes once a week what does it mean? He was also emailed by the embassy that his previous passport expired and to drop off his new passport. Is that a positive sign? Will we be expecting his visa soon?

Really hard to tell. Afghanistan is a high fraud, high risk country, so long time APs are pretty standard from what I’ve seen on this site. Background checks and document authentication can take a long long time, especially if the name is common.

With the consulate requesting a new passport, shows that they are monitoring the case, so it’s a good sign. If the passport has been expired for a longer time and suddenly the passport is “expired” for the consulate could mean they are ready to issue the visa, but keep your hopes contained cause anything can happen in the Afghanistan Consulate.

I hope the visa is issued soon!

Thank you.

It was expired few months ago. Also they didnt ask for the copy they asked for the original passport so lets hope they will give him a visa. 4 years ago in tje interview they didnt keep his passport they had returned it to him.

I went to the US in July 2013 on student visa and got asylum in the US in April 2015 and applied for my husband (as I was married so he was already in my case) right away in May 2015 with the USCIS. His case got approved in July 2015 and had an interview in October 2015. Everything went well but at the end the officer said they need some more time to review the case. They also told him to do the medical which was scheduled after the interview. He did that and till today his case is in Administrative Processing. They did not keep his passport.

Then in January 2020 he got an email telling him to drop off his new passport in the dropbox in the embassy. He did that and then on 6 January 2020 he was scheduled to sign his I730 form which is the form I filed with the USCIS in the begining. And on 10 January 2020 had a new medical so we are waiting lets hope he will get a visa soon inshallah.

He worked in the government in Afghanistan and also once applied for visit visa to the US when my asylum was still pending and they denied his visa. So these can be the reasons for taking so long to be in AP.
