okay, one of our problems is that we called the utility, phone and cable companies after we got married to change it to our names and at least changing my maiden name, and they never did...

so as far as showing bills, that's out. but here's what we DO plan on sending

bank statments showing joint account

copy of last years tax returns

copy of marriage cert

copy of son's birth cert

copy of passports

copy of AAA membership

copy of house insurance

copies of cards sent to us from friends for anniversary, christmas, etc.

copies of family photos

copy of reciept of trip to UK this past Christmas.

While it is not mandatory to sent letters from friends attesting to relationship, if we DID send them, do they HAVE To be notarlized?

thanks

Nora and Nick

How about copies of State ID's showing same address, Copies of credit card statements with both names listed, you can blank out account numbers.

Yes it is recommended to have friends giving affidavit letters, sign them in front of a notary, that way the signature is confirmed to be who they say they are.

You are way past filed for K-1, how about updating your profile to lifting conditions?

Nora and Nick,

They DON'T have to be notarized. However, if they are not notarized, make sure to include the affirmation statement at the end of the document. For example, "I solemnly affirm and declare the foregoing to be a true statement."

If you choose to include letters from your family/friends, USCIS requires sworn affidavits. Sworn affidavits require notarization.

How about joint health insurance, life insurance, wills, anything showing each other as beneficiaries?

we don't have life/health insurance. The reason I am asking about the notarized statements is that i'm afraid that it will take too long if people have to notarize them, and i want to get it send off as soon as possible. that is to say, the people i was thinking of getting statements from are not very good about getting things done. his green card is up august 24.

and... i don't know how to change my status... will work on updating it if i figure it out.

if you have, include some bills .. even if they are not in both names... include some in each name... it still would prove that you live at the same address....

That's what I did, since some bills are under my husband's name and other are under my name, at least it will show the same home address.

What about credit cards, debit cards? any stament showing a joint account?

Just regarding the notarized bit:

We didn't send any friend/family letters, just one from our landlord because we did not have a current lease. It wasn't notarized, and in our case, we just found out we were approved without any setbacks.

As far as I know, though, notarization can be done at most (all?) banks though, so if you need to have it done, you could try there. That's what we did for our I-130's back in the day.

thanks. we do have a few joint credit cards, so that's good. my husband also coaches youth soccer... i wonder if it would be worth putting in something about that -- would prove he lives here and is involved in the community (and therefore isn't just stating this is his address).

lol, i am panicking at the last minute, wondering how we are going to send the evidence of our life together for the last three years in a little envelope. :P
