This is outright racism,  I cant stand. You can bank immigrant visas and allow non immigrants visa.

What I understand from some articles I read is that some Nigerians with non-immigrant visas come and stay. They don't go back but instead, they fight to obtain green cards through other means. To stop that and get our government to cooperate, he banned immigrant visa of any category for Nigeria. But that's shameful because our spouses did not commit any crime neither did we.

What worries me more is that nigerian govt wont be bothered about it because those that matter are not affected. Their children dont apply for these types of visas so they could care less. I dont even know what to think at this point. I can only pray that for an intervention.

My wife is still traveling to Lagos for medical exam. I asked her to do so since she has an interview letter and there is no email from NVC that stops her from attending.

The problem is that non-immigrant visas is not included.

Yes she should go ahead with her process until NVC or emabssy says something otherwise. I think those who have already been scheduled would scale through.

I would look for a great of scrutiny for non-immigrants when trying to enter the US....as in entry denials......

I think they will continue as normal up till 21 feb. I just really pray and hope this doesnt last for too long. I dont trust that nigeria govt will address this issue seriously the way Chad did.

I came across this "The current ban suspends immigrant and non-immigrant visas to applicants from the affected countries, but it allows exceptions, including for students and those who have established "significant contacts" in the US." in the article you posted.

Who knows the meaning of  "significant contacts"? It's possible that we are in that category. My wife's interview is on 24 Feb. Embassy has not notified her not to come.

All immigrants have significant contacts in the US......other than DV....It probably means waivers will be considered....but those have been exceedingly rare in other countries......just my opinion.  You wife should attend her interview as scheduled unless informed otherwise.

Guys I don’t mean to sound bad or scare us but truth is this ban is gonn affect most us who got our dq this Jan cuz we may not have a date b4 the ban effect this month. I’ve also looked at what they want from Nigeria and it doesn’t look really easy but hopefully eventually would be resolved and time is our essence here.

lemme also share a link that explains this ban better

What they are asking for is achievable. Our passport office has records of stolen and lost passports. Nigeria has a list of wanted terrorists, at least they have shown some names in the news years back so that means they know identity of some of these criminals. Nigeria uses e-passport, we have at least data for bvn, sim card registration, voters card and national identity number and passports. It should not be difficult to share required information when necessary. Chad at some point was on the previous list and got removed after 6 months. If nigerian govt cares about this issue, they can meet the requirement but the question is do they really care? Are they really working towards it or the minister is just saying what we want to hear?
