Hi all, so I had submitted the passport at USPS Manhattan on Dec 16th, since I haven't heard back anything and it has been well over 10 business days. I called the passport office customer care number. Unfortunately I didn't receive any additional information from them except that they don't have any record of my application (exactly what the online status showed). I am planning to go down to the USPS office today but is there anything else I can do to figure what's going on with my application.

I had a similar experience: see here.

Unfortunately, mail is extremely delayed due to holiday rush + COVID understaffing. If possible, try to find the direct phone number for the USPS location where you applied, they may be able to help you via the phone and provide you with the tracking number. Even with this information, not much can be done until the mail moves further down the line.

Thank you! I went to the USPS today and they looked up the tracking number -  the passport application was actually delivered to the passport facility on dec 30 th.

I submitted my application on Dec 28 through USPS, and got an update from the State Department this evening (Jan 4) - Application Status: In Process

I applied for passport at USPS on 11/19 and showed up on the web tracker on 11/24. I paid for expedited service and still haven’t received my passport (6 weeks of processing today). I am showing “in process.” I tried calling the customer service number but am told “in process.” Anybody else in a similar situation ?

I believe processing center is “Western” in AZ as I live in Cali

Does it have severe or minimal water damage?

I'm not sure if the following is still the procedure so this is just an fyi.

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/passports/replacing-your-passport-after-the-storm.html

Replace a Damaged Passport

Passports that have water damage can no longer be used and should be replaced. You must apply in person to replace a damaged passport at an acceptance facility or at a passport agency. You will need the following:

  1. The damaged U.S. passport
  2. A signed statement explaining the damage
  3. Form DS-11 (Application for U.S. passport)
  4. Citizenship evidence*  (e.g. birth or naturalization certificate)
  5. A photocopy of citizenship evidence
  6. Present ID (in person)
  7. A photocopy of ID
  8. One passport photo
  9. Fees

https://traveltips.usatoday.com/passport-water-damage-tips-63886.html

Types of Damage

Passports with water damage to the book's cover or the personal data page, as well as those with severe water damage anywhere in the passport book, must be returned to the U.S. Department of State so a new passport can be issued. You must also include a passport application. The U.S. Department of State permits use of passports with minimal water marks – for example, a passport with a single drop of water on a page – because these passports are not considered damaged

It has been saying "In Process" for over 4 weeks now.

Once I sent it in, it took another week just to show up in the system. So basically I sent it in over 5 weeks ago.

hello,

was wondering if you ever received approval? I am in a similar situation, processing for 6 weeks.

Same with us. Spouse had his appointment at the post office mid-November and the passport tracking website says the application was received 11/19 and is in process - no updates since then. We’re in Maryland. The check was cashed back in November.

Thanks so much! Not entirely sure maybe it was from the rain two days ago. Passport was wet outside and the inner pages were so moist. I let them all dry up overnight and it is just very wrinkled. Info pages and others are visible, not too severe. I am just letting it sit under something heavy to straighten them.

Local post office lost my passport :(. They marked it delivered on Dec 26 but the mail truck did not even come by that day. It's a common problem with this post office that they mark items delivered then they appear up to a week later. I put in a request with the post office but still haven't heard anything back yet. So frustrating.

My application (expedited) is also "in process" since 11/24. Their customer service rep told me it's processed in NH (I live in AZ), but couldn't provide any timeframe beyond that.

Many of the passport agencies are in phase one (NH) or even phase zero (AZ), which explains the long processing time.
