I think the only benefit of having the plastic ID page is that it's more water resistant than the paper. Apparently the new passport will also have the passport number perforated into all the pages, which I think makes sense.

As someone who worked at airline I can definitely say that we preferred plastic passport over American paper. It is a question of durability, usability. My husband travels a lot and his passport is due to renewal due to damages every 5 years 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ That little code at the bottom of passport wears out quite fast due to constant swiping.

Is that something to do with American paper? I traveled extensively on my old (not US) passport (ran out of pages in a mega one from all the stamps) and never had any significant wear and tear issues, certainly nothing  requiring replacement.

Yes it's so much more durable. That was one thing I noticed when I received my US passport, it just FEELS cheaper than my Swedish one, it feels like it won't hold up as good. All my Swedish passports (yes I have a few expired as they're only valid for 5 years) have that awesome plastic bio page instead of the cheap feeling paper one. I think it's good that US passports will have a more durable bio page in the future. 

What I absolutely LOVE about the US one is the "decorations", all the pages are sooo beautiful. Best looking passport ever.

That's why my husband was so glad he got the old passport, he loves the decorative pages. I think the new passport with the plastic ID page will have plainer pages.

British passport is pretty nice too  but Australien passports has the cutest bio page ever. It’s holographic kangaroos jumping all over the page😂 but that may be old version

Just got my certificate back.

So the complete timeline for Routine (regular/standard) processing with standard delivery, applied for both book and card ($140 total + $35 USPS execution fee):

Locator begins with: 75

07/29/21: Applied at USPS Las Vegas Summerlin.

08/12/21: Status "In process".

08/13/21: Money order cashed.

08/24/21: Status "Approved".

08/26/21: Status "Shipped".

08/30/21: Passport book (52 pages) received. Shipped from Little Rock, Arkansas

09/01/21: Passport card received.

09/02/21: Naturalization certificate received.

 

Done!!!

Been waiting for 19 days now since I received my passport, certificate still not showing up, needed it on Tuesday... is it lost? Or still in the normal waiting time?
