Update:

My senator has been giving me the run  around for proof of things.. but I have submitted many.. but seems like they are not satisfied with what I have..

I contacted my congressman yesterday.. got a reply today that they have looked into my application... let's wait and see.

My congressman office reached out to me today.  They said that the passport office reached out that they will be working on my passport today and mailing it out with my Naturalization certificate.  Should I get my passport tomorrow or Wednesday 👌🏾

Hello, first time passport applicant and made the mistake to send my application and been in processing for 3 weeks. I have less than 2 weeks to travel, and due to urgency was able to secure an appointment at passport agency 2 days before my flight. Now my original naturalization certificate is sent with my passport application. Can I go to travel agency with a copy? Please, help me with experience you have only. I do have few options as I read online:
1- Call and ask for my application to be transferred. When should I do that? 1 week before my appointment? few days? or more than that? I still have hope contacting my senator will help me get my passport and not having to go to an agency, but I still want to be prepared. Any suggestions?
2- Go to the agency with a copy of my naturalization certificate. Will this be accepted?

Thanks teammate!

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

That's right. Do you mind clarifying? You suggested I should transfer my application. I heard some people have luck with just using the copy as when they went to the passport agency appointment, they did have a record of their already in process application. Some people said they even got refused for application transfer request. There is a lot of different experience, and I wonder about your experience if you can give me a little more details. Thanks so much in advance.

There are power hungry agents who want their 5 mins of power. They are the ones who may deny you file transfer. I encountered one last week Monday. Call again and talk to someone else.

That being said, call the 877 and have them transfer your file to your local office. Show up there with itinerary, walk out with PP.

Just responding to this for future readers ☝️.

Yea, I get what you mean and that absolutely make sense. No chance to risk it. What options do I have to pick to get to someone to transfer my application? (4) Existing application then (2) for expedite my application? I can not locate options to help specifically with application transfer.

Immediately you dial 877 and it starts to speak, quickly punch in 11224. If you get a hanging tone afterwards, that means you will not be connected. Hang up and try later.

To future readers

Punch in 11224 regardless of what option you are looking for. If you get a hanging tone afterwards, that means you will not be connected. Hang up and try later.

However, if you hear it start speaking again and tell you how long you will be on hold, bingo, you are going to be connected. Just let it be and just wait till someone connects to you. Average wait times is around 1 - 1.5 hours.

Guys, I thought I would share my experience here on how to get an agency appointment:

It's simple to get an appointment. This is for non-life related urgent travel, like if you have a plane ticket that you will lose, then you need to follow this:

  1.  14 days before your trip, you need to schedule an appointment in a travel agency
  2. Appointments are not easy to get, but there is tricks.
  3. Wake up at 7:45 eastern time
  4. @7:55 am call the passport number 877-487-2778 (This have to be exactly 14 days before your plane ticket or less. If less, it will get harder to find an appointment)
  5.  Click 1 (For English), then 1 (New Passport), then 2 (To continue). That is 112
  6. Listen for the options, and notice that it say click 4 to repeat this menu
  7. Click 4 to repeat, and keep doing this while watching your watch
  8. When your watch hits exactly 8 :00 am, then hit 2 (for travelling within 14 days option)
  9. Now you will be waiting for an agent. If you are very lucky, you will be waiting few minutes or maybe as long as 15-20 minutes.
  10. If you did not hit the 2 option exactly at 8:00 am, you may have to wait for more than an hour and half

Notes: I did this from 3 phones. I hit the 2 too early from one phone, so I lost my place in line and got disconnected, so I used the other phones as a backup for such thing. If you tried to call again after 8:00 am, you will mostly get busy signal. So follow steps above exactly as is.

If it's life threatening appointment, you can do the same steps above but you have to do it 3 days before your travel date. I am not sure if it's the same as above 112 4444 2 or, if you have to use other keys. But play with the number after like 7 pm when they are closed to find the right keys.

Your other options, is reaching out to your congressman or senator only when you have a flight ticket and ask them to help you with an appointment in a passport agency.

Late night venting (and a cautionary tale if anyone is considering standard service) because this is beyond frustrating.

My wife became a US citizen on 04/14.

She applied for her passport @ USPS on 04/26, standard service.  Quoted 12 weeks at the time, and we weren't in a hurry, so why spend the extra $60?

First sign of trouble (actually, the only sign of anything in this whole process) was that check was only cashed on 06/07, which is the same day the application finally showed up as being "in process."

and....

....not a goddamn thing since then.  Today marks 15 weeks and 3 days since she applied.  In the meantime, they pulled a switcheroo and the expected timeframe for standard service is now 18 weeks.  Awesome 🙄

We have no upcoming international travel plans, so it's probably not appropriate to reach out to a congressman or senator, or try to get an in-person appointment.  We've waited this long, so we don't see the point to forking over more money to expedite the application.  But the aggravation mounts ever higher with each passing day, and god forbid if something happens that requires her to prove her US citizen status.

Oh no, how frustrating :(

FYI, the 18 weeks includes (somehow) 6 weeks for mailing (there and back) https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/processing-times.html  so the 15 week mark should actually be the point at which it is processed by …. if your wife has the energy to stay on hold it may be worth placing a call to them.

What are the first two digits of your file locator number? It may be a delay at that specific agency.
