I noticed that "Regular" timeframe to get a US passport is about 60 days based on passport tracker. We applied on May 8th for my daughter's US passport renewal and website says still in process. Applied at Sunol, CA and wondering if its taking even more longer now. Any one else in the same boat?

Does your passport status say it is "in process", "not available" or "approved"? I think 60 days sounds reasonable and realistic from what I have been seeing.

You know, it used to be about 2 weeks (plus or minus a few days) for renewals including mailing time and about a couple days more to get your old passport back. That was in 2019 and 2018.  The expedited service was over-rated at that time... The real difference was if you go in person to the same-day service; that service was really different when you could get your passport on the same day after you apply (just a few hours later).

What is passport tracker? The passport agency is officially listing regular processing time as 12 weeks at present (excluding mailing time).

Yes, sample size is limited. Looking at a recent case (hsetin) who is from a city close to mine, His renewal took about 50 days. Mine is still "In process"  here (https://passportstatus.state.gov/Search) for > 2 months.

I suspect you will get it within the next 30 days... Who knows!

Despite contacting my Congresswoman, who just essentially got the same response I get on the website in an email, nothing.  I tried to upgrade my shipping for the $17 charge.  The form they sent me said it would take up to 20 business days, excluding federal holidays... just to upgrade the shipping.  When I called them weeks ago, they told me it would be 2 more weeks.  Dummy that I am, I took them at their word and bought plane tickets.

So these 200 people are working from home now?

Fun with math:

2,000,000 applications / 200 people = 10,000 each just to get caught up.

Let's say 5 minutes for each application.  12 an hour * 8 hours * 5 days a week = 480 a week.  (Assume government super workers that take no breaks and work at a constant speed.  A complete fantasy, but it is my make-believe world so let it go).

480 applications a week * 200 People = 96K a week

2,000,000 / 96,000 = 21 weeks

I wonder how many applications they would receive in 21+ weeks.

Even simpler math:

1+1 = We're screwed

Finally done.

The workforce still at home is less than 200, the offices have been almost fully staffed 80% returned a year ago. (Phase Two)

They want to bring the last 200 back to the offices. (Phase Three)

Trump had the agency  lay off 200 people in 2017, that was stated to be a 14% reduction.

NOW do the math!!!

The news article was not clear at all - the above is useful to highlight that they do in fact employ a lot more.

fyi from an article  last year

NFFE [the federal employees union] represents about 1,200 passport specialists and around 100 others non-management employees. Arnold estimated that the agency employs about an equal number of contractor employees.

edit: I have no idea if all employees or only part of them are represented by the union, but it is definitely a lot more than 200. Not sure what all the contractors do - certainly some of them afaik man the phone  “help” line.

Hi all, I just wanted to ask to those here that received their passports, how long did you receive your supporting documents? I have been waiting for almost a month now and I was even able to get through the phone. Unfortunately the person I spoke to did not even bother to look at my case. I asked if it will show on their records when and if they sent my Naturalization Certificate and the guy said you will receive it within 10 days and I said well it has been well over 10 days now. He said that he can't provide me with any information because they are sent by first class mail. I thought that they have info on whether they sent it or not. That was my impression as some of you who have called said they were able to know if and when they were sent out. I wish that they have a trackable system when they return our documents. These are legal, and very important documents that we don't want to be in the open. It is quite frustrating but they seem to be not doing anything/ they do not have a sense of urgency regarding this.

I have applied for US passport under expedite processing on June 7. I received a letter from Seattle Passport Agency in VA asking to resubmit the new passport size photo. I resubmitted the photo and it was delivered on July 12. There was no updates ever since. Is someone has similar experience, update(s)?

Apppointment held at USPS on 7/15 (expedited)

My application was received on 7/17 (USPS did the 2 day delivery)

Department of State cashed my check on 7/19

I checked my status today on the website and it’s says they received my application on 7/20 and currently “in processing” status.

Should I be worried?  my spouse and I applied US passport in early July (first time and renewal).  however, only 1 of us is able to find the status on the website.  should I worry that application did not make to process center? thanks.
