aahhhh, ok. Didn't know that.

So, people that are seeing the tracking info paid for expedited shipping on top of expedited service? I have never seen that on my applications and I was thinking it could be regional.....

My USPS automatically added the express (or priority or expedited or whatever the heck it’s called, it’s the 1-2 day shipping option) envelopes for both there and back, but I have seen some others here who either have had to ask for that or did not realize it was another option. It does cost more of course. Mine got sent to Philadelphia, fwiw.

The USPS clerk suggested the 1-2 day shipping to me to give me some peace of mind especially with the longer processing. I didn’t mind the extra fee as well.

My USPS delivery service was a 2-day service and was with no additional fee added beyond the routine fees. The actual delivery time was not 2-day though as mine was delivered four days later.  The Agency did not touch it so far 3 weeks into the process anyways!

Well… my daughter’s was delivered very late the next day (signed for 11pm the next night) and shown up as in processing another 2 days after that.  I think hers was sent express priority, I didn’t really pay.attention to the official name but it’s a different envelope and costs extra, and they included the cost of another one for sending back. See here https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/passports/forms-fees/Passport Fees Chart_TSG_JAN2021.pdf scroll down to optional fees and there is 1-2 day delivery there too (for sending back again), that was part of my check payment.

I just got my Certificate 20 days after I got my passport. The certificate was shipped four business days after they mailed my passport… so pretty much it was the USPS taking they’re sweet time.

I got my originals back . 21 days from passport approval. Thank god.

In my case, and because we got it sent in the early afternoon (that was too late I guess), the usps lady said she was not going to count that day as 1st day. So, I guess they started counting on the following day and it was supposed to be 2 days for delivery from that point. The 2-day passed but they apologized to me in the tracking system for the delay and it was delivered very early in the morning the following day after the 2-day period around 5:36 AM. I think they delivered it to P.O. Box.

That makes it four days total counting the first day (even if she decided not to count it, and counting the delay they reported in their system).

You didn’t pay the extra for the 1-2 day shipping, therefore it was not guaranteed.  We submitted around 12:30pm on 6/29 in California (so = 3:30pm eastern time) and it was signed for in Philadelphia at 11pm (eastern time) on 6/30… because that’s what we paid for.  They don’t deliver regular mail at 11pm!  (Honestly, I feel kind of bad that they have guys working that late…) The 2 days would have been by 7/1 so it counted as 1 day (that is, next day) as far as Usps is concerned, from what I understand.

The receipt said that it was a 2-day guarantee... and no I did not pay for it! If time goes back, I would still pick the same because I don't think the service was different!

Your receipt had a tracking number and details of where it was being delivered to?

This is what i think is regional, that i was referring to in an earlier comment about not getting a tracking number unless the expedited shipping option is added...

Except it clearly wasn’t a guarantee lol because it took 4 days not 2. Whatever, I had seen too many issues reported here, and we have a bucket list trip coming up later this year so I decided to try reduce any delays whether at USPS or the passport agency. Obviously, different people have different priorities. But you also said it’s been 3 weeks and you still aren’t showing up in processing. So you didn’t do anything expedited at all, normal mailing and regular passport process? Mine was already showing up as in process at the agency within the same time frame that yours was just delivered, so yes I do think it makes a difference.

I noticed that "Regular" timeframe to get a US passport is about 60 days based on passport tracker. We applied on May 8th for my daughter's US passport renewal and website says still in process. Applied at Sunol, CA and wondering if its taking even more longer now. Any one else in the same boat?

What is passport tracker? The passport agency is officially listing regular processing time as 12 weeks at present (excluding mailing time).

Yes, it did. In my experience, I could track the packet and where it was stopping along the way all the way to the desired destination. I do think it is a regional cause even for the mailing process. It is not all the same.

It was a guarantee but they did not exactly fulfill or honor their guarantee. They told me in advance that the first day was not going to count (because it was in the afternoon where I lived away from the cities). Then it arrived very early in the morning at 5:30ish after what they counted as a second day. So, It is only hours after the time they promised it would get there by. They apologized and I accepted their apology hahaha....

But the real delay seems to be coming from the agency where it was sent to (not the mailing service from/to the agency and the citizen). I think I am seeing that through others' comments as well as my own experience. The agencies are clearly saying to expect a delay as well. It all depends which center your paperwork ends up with is my best guess and explanation. It seems like that some centers are much faster than others...
