In New York, NY and you? And when did you apply?...There is still time before to seriously get worried but something tells me it really is going to be borderline! Just like you, I don't want to overthink it YET but it is just upsetting to think that there is no accountability whatsoever. And it even says that USPS delivery could take up to 6 weeks! Like, seriously?

I think we are both unlucky participants in the New Hampshire office.   That's where my application got submitted.  Probably yours also from New York.  The people who I'm seeing that got timely service got it from other locations.

Boston office seems to be very good based on the experiences posted here.

The unfortunate thing with my application was that even though i applied from the Boston region, my application got bounced around for 5 weeks before showing up in South Carolina.... I'm sure it would have been faster if it was processed at the Boston center.

There is much to be desired with the process, lack of transparency and workload management of the passport agencies....

Agreed, Boston seems like a pretty good one. I live in L.A. so it's just very random where the applications go, I guess. I had no idea it was Boston until I got my certificate back and saw the address.

I submitted it at the courthouse,  which sent the documents they already had on file, which were certified.   In the letter the passport agency wrote me, they wanted her original green card, our original marriage certificate, school records and medical records.  The folks at the court house assured me that we'd be getting the passport in 4 to 6 weeks.   So basically,  the passport agency waited a month to send me a letter requesting these documents, then another 12 days to get them in the system after I sent them.  Then our "6 weeks" apparently started, if they don't come up with another issue.  I will just be happy when this is over and grateful that I'll only have to deal with them one more time (for my wife), other than renewals.  My real concern is the time here.  I need this within the next 3 1/2 weeks or else I'm going to lose $1200 in airline fares, not to mention a mess with my daughter's school that might force us to home school her next year.  That makes the $1200 look like peanuts.

That is plain ridiculous. Why do they need originals when they have certified copies of the same? Instructions on their website clearly state "original or certified". But i guess we can't win that argument when time is not on our side :(

Unfortunately, we are down to hope.  Not the best strategy.   This is a pathetically run federal agency.  But who knows, maybe I'll get in the in next week or so.

Not the best strategy for sure but unfortunately the only one, that is the frustrating part.

Alright, alright, alright....now that I do not need to worry about my citizenship application anymore, I need something else to get worked up about. So here I am to hang out with my fellow citizens in the passport section of VJ. After reading a few pages, it looks like this place will suit my needs.

So first things first, is expedited processing worth the extra monies? I don't have any travel plans coming up but I would feel more comfortable with the passport in my hand sooner rather than later. But as my wife, bless her, always says to our kids, "is it a "want" or is it a "need". We <mom and I> don't do 'wants' unless you're paying for it yourself"

If you ask me then no, definitely not worth spending $60 extra if you don't have any travel plans within the next 2 months.

The only thing I semi-regret is not getting a passport card too, I only chose the passport book. But I still haven't figured out what I would ever need the card for, so.. Guaranteed to be another one of those things clogging up my wallet for absolute no reason.

Thank you for sharing your thought on the expediting; for me, it looks like it would be a want rather than a need.

Finally applied for my daughter’s passport today . Lady at the usps said it is currently taking 8-10 weeks for expedited and 18 for regular. I looked at the DoS website when I got home thinking  she was exaggerating and it actually said 12 for expedited (6 weeks processing and allow 6 for mailing?!) and 18 for regular. Anyway, I ponied up for the expedited. We have a bucket list trip in December and the sooner we get her passport the happier I’ll be.

Another question for others who’ve got expedited (and I see some recent ones here getting expedited in around a month, i so hope we do too), what passport center? The receipt with tracking number we got says it’s going to Philadelphia, even though I clearly saw her put a San Francisco application center sticker on the package. Is there something in their system that automates where it goes, does anyone know?
