In Process May 12th.

Passport shipped June 8th.

Passport recieved June 9th Wednesday.

Passport card recieved June 12th

Certificate recieved June14th

This is Charleston south Carolina processing center.

Good luck everyone.

Hhhhmmmm, that's longer than normal for expedited....

My 'regular' application also went to Charleston after being bounced for 5 full weeks. Almost 6 weeks from then, and still waiting.. :(

Applied: 2-Apr

In-Process: 6-May

At least I can hope to get the certificate sooner after the approval....

Yeah his expedited took as long as my standard processing. There's certainly a difference between the different passport agencies.

I was happy with the Boston Passport Agency, they sent back my certificate really fast. Got my passport book on a Saturday and received the certificate the following Tuesday, so about 1,5-2 business days in between.

Yeah i know that is unusual for expedited but given the circumstances and less people working at the passport office i am glad i am now done with the passport process. People have been waiting soo long for the certificate.

couple years back my parents applied even standard process took them 10 days for the passport to arrive. So right now nothing is normal.

That makes the cases of some of us even sadder. There is no logic behind the inconsistencies....

For instance, I applied from the Boston area, my application got delivered to the Philly agency two days later. But for some inexplicable reason, it got bounced around for 5 full weeks before being resurfaced as 'in process' at the Charleston agency. And, there is no accountability or transparency to what happens to your application after you submit it to the passport clerk other than crossing your fingers and wish for good luck :(

It looks like the DHS website was just updated:

Expedited: 10-18 weeks now 😭

I have my flight in less than two weeks and when I applied expedited was only 4 weeks. Any tips on what to do? this is unbelievable and so stressful. I cannot even book an urgent appointment 3 days before my flight because they are FULLY booked and the over the phone agents do not seem to be able to do anything besides reading what is already on the website.

Wow.

What to Expect:

  • Mail delays are impacting when we receive passport applications for processing. Our processing times begin the day we receive your application, not the day you mail it.
  • Routine service can take up to 18 weeks from the day an application is submitted to the day a new passport is received. The 18-week timeframe includes up to 12 weeks for processing and up to 6 weeks for mailing times on the front and back end.
  • Expedite service (for an additional $60) can take up to 10 weeks from the day an application is submitted to the day a new passport is received. The 10-week timeframe includes up to 6 weeks for processing and up to 4 weeks for mailing times on the front and back end.

Our processing times (up to 12 weeks for routine; up to 6 weeks for expedite) do not include mailing times. Mail times vary and delays have been significant. Plan ahead.

If I read it right, the processing itself is still the same, ie up to 12 weeks for routine and 6 weeks for expedited, but now apparently the shipping (to and from the passport agencies) is taking a lot longer. So for the whole thing (shipping AND processing) it can take a whooping 18(!) weeks for routine and 10 weeks for expedited, from the application date to the date you receive your passport. I can't even imagine that the shipping can take 6 weeks, that doesn't sound right, especially when the passport is sent priority?

The received my passport app on 5/20/21.

Called my senador on 6/14/21 and 6/15/21 to ask for help since my flight is on Sunday.

I’m getting the passport tomorrow morning, they basically made it today and sent it via UPS. I’m so effing happy, I was so stressed out 😰

Your post gave me sooo much hope. My flight is in 12 days and my application was received on exactly one week ago. I called my congressman yesterday and was told that they reached out to the agency but have not heard back yet. Which state are you from? I am in CA and my application is in NH. Did your status say that you chose the expedited service? Mine says that I chose the routine service even though I included the expedition fee in my check which has not even been cashed yet. Do you recommend reaching to my senator as well or the congressman is enough?

Congrats and I cannot wait to share the same story as yours 🙏🏻

Are your sure you checked the right box on the application form, you didn't accidentally check routine instead of expedited?

It's possible the passport agency made a mistake, you need to call and have it corrected if so. They don't care if you actually get it expedited or not, they will just pay back the $60 that you paid extra if you call and complain once you're outside normal processing time. So you need to talk to them before that.

Call your senator. Mine reached out to them the same day and located my app. Today we called again and once again explained how urgent everything is. The senator assigned a lady to my case and she called the supervisor in the passport center. She also told us, she did 15 passports like that today, the passport centers are really busy, that’s why it’s taking longer now. Contact your senator and let them know, you tried your congressperson but it didn’t work, be nice and make it sound like your life depends on it. 😂
