Hi,

We've just received an interview date of Feb 3rd in Warsaw Poland. We feel very confident we'll get approved. What would be the earliest and safest date to plan our flight for immigrating to the USA?

I feel like I read that it usually takes a month until after being approve din the interview to enter the USA, but I can't find that information again.

Thank you

I'd be careful about booking flights before an actual approval. Not saying something will go wrong, but you never know.
Hoping for the best, expecting the worst....

Also this probably depends a lot about other timelines like leave notice for work, rental contracts, etc. which I - and also the US embassy (they once suggested it to us when we asked about the process) - suggests to not quit before you have your visa or at least the official approval.

I would not book any flights until you have the visa in hand, and you have checked it for errors....Too many things can happen to delay a visa.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

No way to know for sure until you actually have your passport with the visa in it in your hands.  It varies by country, and each case is unique, some are smooth and faster than others, some have unexpected delays or errors...

If you book a flight ticket now assuming two weeks or a month after the visa interview, you're playing the odds.  Read the fine print and know the airline's policy on refunds/changes/cancellations before you buy if you take a chance before receiving the visa physically.  Know the financial risk you are taking in case you have to postpone the trip.

My husband and I played it safe last year and did not buy any tickets until he had the CR-1 visa, a week after his interview where he was "approved."  Even then, he wanted two months to settle his affairs, give time to his company that he was leaving so that he could train his replacement, say goodbye to his family and friends without rushing.

Good luck!

Are you also certain you're not going to get placed on AP ? People in Warsaw were, even those applying for B1/B2 in pre-VWP time...

Depends entirely on your tolerance for losing money due to nonrefundable/nonchangeable airline tickets.  You could spring for tickets for which the date could be changed.

When I was planning my move to the US, it was a fine dance of 'when to put the house on the market', 'when to give notice at work', 'when to cancel insurances, etc.'.

I did NONE of that until I had my passport in hand, containing the visa.

Nothing is 100%!! It's even recommended that you travel at least once, to activate the visa, because the CPS guards can turn you away, even with a valid visa in hand, if they have a lawfully valid concern.

What I miss most about Canada, in no particular order:

My family!

My friends!

KD!

Hawkins Cheezies!

Poutine!

Lays Ketchup Chips!

What I don't miss:

You wait until you have the passport back and have verified that the VISA is correct.  Just because the CO says "you are approved" there is always a chance that something comes up on review.

Last year Philippines had a delay because there was an issue printing immigrant visas. People got delayed for a few weeks.  Other consulates have had issues from time to time.  We were delayed getting our Visa in Mexico because a hurricane washed out the road to the office where we had to pick it up.
