What's the difference between upper and lower forums? What makes one upper?

Upper forums are the non regional ones where English only is required.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I couldn't answer that for you, because neither of those replies are about you. Both are jokes.

Jokes are usually funny though. The W one is, in my opinion, passable. The other is completely opaque, sorry.

Neato, but the posts weren't to you, nor about you (or anyone else here), so I don't get why you're telling me this. It doesn't matter to me if you don't find my joke to another person funny. Think we can move on.

Liked only for this. :P Sadly the little Scottish flag that showed up on my phone did not show up on the webpage which I can see now I'm home. :( But imagine it was like a tiny version of this:

flag-for-scotland_1f3f4-e0067-e0062-e007

Sadly Alex only sounds even a bit Scottish when he's a bit trollied. Maybe that's why I always keep booze in the house. :D

Also, when I went looking for "tiny Scottish flag" I found something that is called a "battle kilt" and oh my goodness. I need to take a quite cold shower now.

OMG Scottish English is so awful to try to understand.... I don't even know why it is considered apart of the English language in general.

Now for storytime kiddies:

Back in the wee days of 2011 when I was working in far flung Qandahar region of Afghanistan on a big airbase there. The company I worked for at the time started getting cheap and figured out that they could start hiring UK personnel to work as "NATO Expats" and pay them half the price of a US expat employee. So they brought in a number of UK guys as heavy equipment mechanics who just so happened to be Scottish. They ended up taking my maintenance bay because we were short of personnel at the time and "they were just going to borrow it for a short while", well that short while ended up being around 3 months. So they took over the outside maintenance bay and put Scottish flags on all four corners letting everybody know that they were Scottish and proud of it. Later on I go over there to talk to them and tell them that they have to move out now inorder to set a date that they would have all their stuff out.

So I go over there and start talking to a guy who is supposedly the Lead over there and he has a very thick and I mean thick Scottish accent. We start trying to conversate and I can't understand anything he is saying at all which is very surprising because I can conversate with almost anyone in broken English. So I get frustrated and ask him "Dude, are you even speaking English?" and he gets pissed off and walks away. Finally he comes back with someone to help translate between us and I get my maintenance bay back once my numbers got bumped back up again.
