I don't know -- possible with the unisex bathroom. Those are not uncommon.

Not a wine cave -- I peeked in about 20 minutes ago on the way back from the library to try and get cards. Looked pretty bright and airy with a big patio. Also no pizzas. Can't confirm AOC or throuples.

Menu looked like a lot of charcuterie stuff, saucisson sec, speck, duck prosciutto, plus a nice selection of cheeses from the US, California, UK, etc. I would have gone but we are having Italian tonight, apparently. I did check and make sure "Italian" wasn't Chef Boyardee!

Bright and airy sounds nice when we are 35f and Raining in the Willamette.

This such an elementary concept it boggles my mind, that even the most ardent Trump haters can't grasp it.  Jesus H my mind cant get around this, to hades with anything good for America if Trump is doing it insanity

The longest post I have seen you put up, but it is still populist claptrap without any sound economic theory to support your arguments.

Do you think this is about wine? No it's about creating controversy to distract from the fact that Trump hasn't done anything for workers in this country.

Coal production? Down 45  % under Trump

Carrier factory? Moved to Mexico.

That Foxconn 13,000 jobs in Wisconsin? More like Fox-con.

Is unemployment down? Yes but who is getting ahead when wages are behind inflation?  3 million more uninsured under Trump? That's good declaring medical medical bankruptcy makes you smart!

The reason given for applying this tariff is not even a Tariff, do I am not sure how American industry is being hurt.

Just like transgender  bathrooms, bringing Merry Christmas back and caravans heading for the border.... this is about creating a cultural divide to confuse,  because at the end of the day, the man has nothing.

The big picture story would be that tariffs are generally passed on to the end consumer.

And we all know how price-sensitive the US imported French wine market is.

The transgender bathroom is just overblown hoopla. The majority of businesses just made a male and female bathroom two unisex bathrooms that's all. I wish I could have a throuple....

Long, long ago I had thought that multi-gender public bathrooms were a waste of space, and it should've just been an area with individual private stalls or a single room with private stalls. I think the multi-room thing, and even nowadays, the multi-room + family + handicap rooms setup is a massive waste of space, lots of room for improvement.

I remember the gym I went to in Pasadena just made the third bathroom a guaranteed unisex bathroom.

You don't go up to Solvang to winery hop???? Some friends of mine took us up there once to winery hop with them for the weekend. It was a good time the only bad thing was that we had kids with us. They were apart of a couple wine clubs up there until he got himself a new truck and has to give up the clubs to pay the truck payments.

You are living good if you have a apartment in Santa Monica. Do you live close to the pier, and is it 1 or 2 bedroom? I used to love driving up the PCH to Malibu on the PCH then crossing over to the 101 using Kanan Dume Rd. That road is the best one to use because it's 2 lanes each way almost all the way through.

Only been to Solvang once on a girls' trip a long time ago when I lived in Pasadena. Loved it! We stopped in at Paso Robles because it was halfway between Berkeley and Santa Monica, and Al owed me (in my opinion) some wine tasting and spa treatments for basically handling the move all on my own. :P

We are in a 2 bed nearish the ocean -- about 10 minutes by foot to the beach. Very near the 3rd Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place. The pier is a little farther down the beach. However -- and I did not appreciate this when we rented it -- there are a LOT of tourists and they can get loud when they're drunk. On a Sunday night. 😕

Getting to be right near PCH is a bonus and I love Malibu and all the seafood places up and down, but traffic.... ughhhh. You know the drill. :)

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/manufacturing-employment-in-the-us-is-at-the-same-level-of-69-years-ago-2019-01-04

Some food for thought: the U.S. had as many people working in the manufacturing sector in December as it did 69 years ago.

The 32,000 positions added in December took the total number of positions in manufacturing to 12.84 million. In November 1949, there were 12.88 million manufacturing workers, at the end of a sharp recession.

The economy in 1949 was unlike that of the U.S. in 2019 in another way. Then, some 30% of American civilian workers outside the farm sector were in manufacturing; now, that percentage stands at just 8.5%, about as low as it’s ever been.

The hollowing out of America’s industrial base, and the loss of the highly paid jobs for the high-school educated that went along with them, goes some way to reflect the tectonic shifts in U.S. politics that set the stage for the election of President Donald Trump and his brand of populism.

Last year, 264,000 new manufacturing jobs were added, representing the highest number of new workers since 1988. As a percent of the total workforce, manufacturing rose for the first time since 1984.

Bernard Baumohl, chief global economist for The Economic Outlook Group in Princeton, N.J., said two major things are happening — one, companies are opting to hire workers rather than increase capital expenditure, and two, the White House is actively trying to disrupt global supply chains.

Quote

That’s not the only factor that is getting U.S. companies to rely more on domestic supply chains. The spike in the cost of freight containers due to consolidation, and the severe shortage of truckers, has raised transportation costs.

That is one thing I really do miss about California is the fish tacos. I miss a good mahi mahi taco.

That is still close to the beach though. You mind if I come stay sometime so I can stay at the beach? Naw but really I wasn't a big fan of the Santa Monica beach tbh with you. It was very pretty and nice but the water was cold as everything. I much rather prefer the beaches up by Carpinteria. They are not as crowded as the beaches in LA and the OC

It's funny because next to where I proposed to an ex, beach at Santa Cruz/Capitola near Margaritaville, was one of my favorite spots, on the wharf, perfect angle to watch all the tourists who'd go sprinting toward the water in shorts only, expecting warm water, only to scream when they jumped in the water and it was freezing cold. Was always fascinated with how each person needed to jump in themselves to verify it was freezing cold.

I do have a Merlot laying around until.insecure to drink it. Which sucks because my wife hates wine but I like it. I do like a good Cab or red blend. Which if you want a good Red Blend then check out Dreaming Tree 's Crush

Is dreaming tree the Dave Mathews wine? I have yet to try it.

FYI The Paul Giammati character  the Sideways movie was filmed in Solvang.

Edit: Drink that Merlot, the advice from the movie was ironic because the Cheval Blanc that he was saving...is 90% Merlot.

Alert-

Wine-movie nerd here, don't get me going on Bottle Shock.

Sideways is one of my ex's favorite films -- I have "watched" (i.e., wandered into the room while it was on) more times than I can count. I have watched it through three times and like it a lot, I just don't like it "I have to watch this every week" that much.

Talk about people who will feel the burn from the tariffs -- he still thinks French is best.

I never knew that until now and I looked it up. But yes it is that brand the red blend is pretty good. The Cabernet is ok at best

It is a film about emotionally stunted man-chidren approaching middle age without much to show for it. You should remind him that the film is a comedy and not a self help guidance film 😉😂😉😉
