  As a general rule, for quid pro quo to be considered illegal, at least one of the quid or the quo must actually be illegal. Brown nosing on a message forum probably doesn't qualify.

   Yes it can be illegal. I was saying is not inherently illegal. For example, they often offer extra to pick up overtime where I work (above the time and a half rate that is in the contract). If no one picks it up, they go higher or throw in something else of value. Quid for quo, perfectly legal.

 

  We should not over look that there is an actual legal ruling, that politicians cannot engage in certain types of quid pro quo. On of the commonly known ones is an exchange of money for political favors by an elected official. In that case the quid pro quo constitutes a bribe, which is illegal.

If we're going to use a legal context, that needs to be proven beyond reasonable doubt that Trump specifically sought to benefit himself.

 

Logic flaw:

- Trump can't benefit himself, or anyone else, or else "quid pro quo"

- But pretty much any way he benefits the US, he's benefiting himself, as an American citizen and as a President facing re-election

- Therefore beyond destroying the US, pretty much anything Trump does at all is "quid pro quo"

 

Reasonable doubt:

- A VP engaging in a "quid pro quo" for his son isn't just of interest to Trump, but the USA as a whole, because it's a US crime AND deals with Ukraine corruption.

- Finding those corruptly trying to influence the 2016 elections isn't just of interest to Trump, but the USA as a whole, because that concerns US elections, likely US crimes as well. 

 

In a legal context, the idea that Trump is specifically doing this in a way to benefit personally is pretty much impossible to prove beyond reasonable doubt when the very topics directly relate to matters important to the USA, and since the President is the one who both determines that (as Chief Executive) via foreign policy, and is the key stakeholder in legislation concerning Ukraine money, this argument gets flushed just from cursory scrutiny.

 

But, of course, the articles here were not intended to get a conviction, it's the weaponized use of a political process, and political power, to try and affect the outcome of the 2020 elections.. ironically the very thing Trump is accused of.
