Hi,

I  just got married in December 2019 and just started to prepare my AOS file. I had some questions regarding form I-485 and I-130 and I am hoping I will get some answers here.

Form I-485

1. The very first field of this form is A-Number so I was confused if I need to fill that out or not. I am on STEM OPT right now so I do have an EAD and also Alien/USCIS no. so should I put that info over there and same info on other forms or leave it blank?

2.  Do I need to put my Nickname in the section "Other names you have used since birth"  field? since in the instructions it says include your nicknames etc? and some of the evidence for my marriage has my Nickname on it so not sure what to do here.

3. In the section "Recent Immigration History" Page 2 it says to enter Non-immigrant Visa Number from THIS passport but my current visa is in old passport so do I still need to put my visa number here or leave it blank since I don't have any visa stamp on my new passport.

Form I-130

Part -4 Beneficiary's Entry Information : In this section  I am confused about what to put under "he/she arrived as a (Class of admission) -- The first time I came to USA was on tourist visa but I went back and applied for my F-1 visa and came back so should I put F-1 or Tourist visa here?

I'd appreciate if someone can help me with these questions.

Thank you!!

Ans 1) No just leave that blank as A-Number implies to a GC holder , dont worry about it about it .

2) I would suggest to leave that blank to unless u have some government issues id reflecting that name.

3) You need to put your VISA number on that (The one on F1 visa)

4) Put as F1 (It could be found on your recent I94).

Good Luck !

Just a little note, not only Green Card holders can have A-Number.

Form I-485

1. Look at your EAD card and use your A-Number listed on there to fill out the form. Although it's not earth-shattering if you forget it, since a new one will be created for you when you have your GC.

2. I do go by "Vanessa", so I put it there. It's just a nickname, so if, for example my husband calls me Vanessa at the interview, the interviewer won't get confused. No document needed for it. But if it's maiden name, name changes, then absolutely provide the needed documents.

3. I'm not sure, but if you entered under F-1, then I think you should provide your F-1 visa number. I maybe extra, but I would give them a copy of both the old and new passport.

4. Search for your most recent I-94 and enter the entry visa. It can't be 2 visas :D

I recently filed the below forms for my wife  and they are accepted by uscis.

Form I-485

1. The very first field of this form is A-Number so I was confused if I need to fill that out or not. I am on STEM OPT right now so I do have an EAD and also Alien/USCIS no. so should I put that info over there and same info on other forms or leave it blank?

I included the A-number on my wifes OPT EAD card.

2.  Do I need to put my Nickname in the section "Other names you have used since birth"  field? since in the instructions it says include your nicknames etc? and some of the evidence for my marriage has my Nickname on it so not sure what to do here.

I would suggest to include any other names used including nick name.

3. In the section "Recent Immigration History" Page 2 it says to enter Non-immigrant Visa Number from THIS passport but my current visa is in old passport so do I still need to put my visa number here or leave it blank since I don't have any visa stamp on my new passport.

I left this blank

Form I-130
