Hi all,

I have my medical scheduled for next week, and the interview for the week after. I have some questions about the validity of the medical for (1) point of entry, and (2) AOS.

1) Does the medical exam date impact POE? i.e. does the medical need to be under 6 months, 1 year, etc at POE? or does this not matter, as long as K1 was issued in last 6months?

2) During AOS, I understand that the medical for the K1 can be used, up to a certain time frame. How long is this?

The reason I ask is that our interview is the end of this month, but I have my own business and I want to see the projects through and then close it down before heading to the US in June / July. Please do let me know if there are any other problems that you can see with our plan!

Thanks in advance :-)

1.  You visa will normally expire 6 months after your medical exam.  You must enter the US prior to that expiration date which will be printed on your visa.

The norm is 6 months from the medical, but it doesn't mean their hasn't been a case where it was less. Always check the date as soon as you get the visa.

As a matter of fact, my wife's CR-1 was less.......Her medical was in Apr 2017 (I was present)........visa issued on 10 May 2017........expiration date was 10 September 2017.........I never figured out why.....

In London, your visa will be issued to expire 6 months from the date of your medical. That means if you have the medical and don't interview until 5 months and 3 weeks later, your visa will be issued to expire in a week. You would have to enter the US before it expired. So plan the enter the US by July if you go to the medical next week. If that's not enough time, then cancel and make a medical appointment later.

For AOS, you have to submit your application within one year of when the medical was given. And DO get all you shots needed for AOS before the medical or at the medical so you are signed off for AOS and don't have to see a new doctor in the US to sign off on shots you get later.

Just a note...

The validity of the medical is normally 6 months. However, it can be less if there are certain medical conditions (basically, if there is a TB finding).

Hmm, this last part doesn't make sense to me. Why would they shorten the time if they find TB, rather than just deny the visa?

Its the validity of the follow on medical after a condition of TB has been treated

YMMV
