I am not sure what the significance is here other than the magnetic reversal was recorded n something living?  To my knowledge, there has been something like 180 reversals over the past 80 million years or so mostly recorded in the geologic records.

I doubt any of the reversals were "recorded".  More likely, they were estimated.
