What reason is there to believe that TSA checks expiration dates on foreign passports and that having an expired foreign passport will result in TSA refusing to allow the passenger to fly?

She can use her passport as ID for TSA.  Too bad she didn't get a Driver's License or State ID card prior to marriage.

Not every state gives out DL or state id without EAD or GC.

Using K1 for DL or state id is limited to 90 days. Basically good for nothing.

What reason do you have to believe that they wouldn't accept an expired foreign passport as valid identification, assuming they even looked at the expiration date?  There are lots of reports online about people flying with expired American IDs or even flying with no ID at all.

https://www.tsa.gov/blog/2018/08/02/four-tips-remember-when-checking-your-id-airport-security

"If you’re traveling with an expired license or passport you may still be able to fly.  Acceptable forms of ID cannot be more than 12 months past the identified expiration date.

If you have misplaced, lost, traveling with an expired ID, or simply do not have an acceptable form of ID, our officers will ask you for two secondary forms of identification, with the following information:

  • Name
  • A photo
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Social Security Number
  • Date of birth

The TSA officer will review all documentation provided in order to verify your identity. To minimize any potential delays, you are encouraged to provide as much information and documentation as possible. If your identity cannot be verified with the provided documentation, you may be required to go through an alternative identity verification process, which includes collecting information such as your name, current address, and other personal information, and asking personal questions to help confirm your identity."

Hi, this is an interesting question. If the OP will forgive me for asking a slightly different question: at the AoS interview would the USCIS officer frown upon presenting an expired passport? This assumes the beneficiary has several other valid forms of ID. We're not in this situation thankfully, but my spouse's relative is working hard to get her PP renewed in time. Thanks for any opinions!

Thank you for this information! My research was only for US residents, but it looks like you found it! Thank you so much!

Hey there! I'm not really worried about the USCIS officer re expired passports. It would be TSA, coming in and out of different states since we would have to travel for her interview and everything else.

DMV will not issue State ids to a non-resident.

California will issue a state ID card to anyone with a pulse. You don't even have to be in the country legally. I believe since the OP posted going to San Fransisco, that they are in California.

Sorry to be confusing. This is probably because I haven't filled out my profile or timeline. We live in Alaska. San Francisco is the closest we can renew foreign passports.

note for all - members may ask for additional information to clarify the situation before they provide advice.

it is also against the terms of service to insinuate or tell others not to post in a thread.

1 post removed for a personal insult, 2 more for quoting.

post constructively or do not post.  take advice offered graciously.

Hello everyone! My wife and I really need help.

We filed for her AoS this week, and I was hoping to go to SFO to renew her passport. The dilemma is, we are not able to get any form of identification before she gets her green card, and she also needs her green card to renew her Philippine passport! How are we able to get through TSA, if the timelines for filing at the Chicago Lockbox is 8-24 months? :(

Can we request for an extension on a Philippine passport? If yes, when should we do that?

You filed for EAD, that will give you a picture ID in about 4-6 months, that will work for TSA and much more.

You can't file for renewal of the passport without the green card ... just have to be patient on that.
