Hard finding a job.2 months down the line!

Temp Agencies are your best friend. I met a guy (Apex - IT Temp Agency) at a job fair on a tuesday afternoon (in september). He had a phone interview ready in the evening, but was postponed to Wednesday Morning. I sent my documents for Background check on thursday... cleared by friday. Monday i reported for my first day of work under a 3-month temp-to-hire contract. The three months went by quick and i'm now a full time employee.

 

It's important to note that before all this I did what I had to do to get by. Immediately I landed in june I got a job at McDonald's. That was $9/hr, hard work, late hours, but still better than nothing (especially after being an unemployed youthman in Kenya for 2 yrs, tarmacking hard). A month later I added another job at the restaurant section of a grocery store, Wegmans, washing dishes for $11. Wegman's is a great employer. In sept/oct I got the IT job i'd been looking for through the temp agency. After two months of that I quit McDonald's and added more hours at Wegman's. I will keep my blue-collar job as it keeps me humble and reminds me not to take my office job for granted.

I am a USC in Houston as well. I have a bacherlor and masters degree in geology. I recently moved back after working abroad and living with my husband after I graduated. I have been sending out applications since August 2019 without any luck. I am nearly at 300 applications. I left NZ so that I can try to find a job before we get to the NZ stage. It is a very long and demeaning process, especailly with the amount of applciations you have to send and get no response.
