Citizenship and the War.

Now that apparently we have a war and I'm planning on becoming a US citizen this year I couldn't avoid thinking of the possibility of being recruited, which would be against my will since I don't support wars and I don't consider myself war material (or useful to it in any way).

So I'm wondering: Can a US Citizen (former permanent resident) with no military training at all be recruited? What's the likelihood of it?

Facts to know:

  • I am an only son.
  • I have a letter from the Selective Service System stating that I was not required to enlist since I became a resident after being 26 years old.
  • My concern is not because of religious reasons.

Thanks in advance for any comments/thoughts on this. Peace 👍

Who’s at war? And to which countries service are you refering to with relation to mandatory service? and if you get us citizenship I assume any service outstanding and specific to Mexico would bepend on your retention of dual nationality..

any countries mandated call up to serve, over rides your personal beliefs if you fall within the mandated category... if you’re called to serve the us after becoming a us citizen (highly unlikely) you have to serve unless physically mentally prevented from doing so..

I believe that the OP is referring to the tensions between the US and Iran, and he seems to think that all US citizen adults will be forced to serve...

OP, don't worry about this.

I'm talking of Iran's situation, and practically just any future conflicts in which it becomes likely (even if it's just a little) to be recruited, what you mentioned about the dual citizenship would not matter since when you become a citizen you swear to give up loyalty to other nations, and I know that it is certainly unlikely to be recruited just like that (as I mentioned: without any formal training) but it's not an impossible scenario.

Yeah not gunna happen..

a, not at war

b, they not gunna call up an immigrant to serve..

c, massive us military to go through before they even consider conscription would have to be WW3 first

Your 3 points are exactly what I thought, especially the third one, but! I mean... it is not an impossible scenario to get to that point, isn't it?

Incorrect about becoming a citizen revoked prior citizenship held.. you need to check your country of origin and relinquish citizenship in many cases, it’s not automatic.. hence people having multiple citizenship such as myself..

USA you must register for national service at a certain age, but they don’t have actual  mandatory service so to speak, they stopped that years ago... they can recommence it, but I don’t see it happening anytime in the near future.. like I said it would have to be one massive war for them to consider it, e.g. ww3.. in that case, you’ve got no choice if called upon, it’s mandatory for specific age groups if you fall into it and are fit for service you have to do it.. is cowardice not to.

Side note... males 18-26 I think must sign for national service... unlikely called up. But you must register as a citizen or face a massive fine,,

are you over over the age of 26?

First off if you are not willing to join up and serve even as a conscientious objector then why dis you decide for U.S. Citizenship, and why are you here?

My question still stands though. So even if called up you will go to jail rather than be a conscientious objector?

I wouldn't be an objector, I'm just concerned about it, and as I am not an expert on the subject I came to this forum to get informed.

Yeah at 30 national service isn’t a problem.. see like below..

but like i said, if they ever did call you up as an American to serve in a significant conflict then you must serve your country.. simple.. if you don’t want to you should reconsider because your allegiance to the USA  isn’t quite as strong as your pledge now is it..?
