Hi Everyone,

Do anyone have experience with N-400 with divorce. It would be helpful if any of you could answer below questions.

1. Do I need to upload any other documents beside final divorce decree and front/back green card copy for N-400 online?

2. What are the documents do I need to take for interview? I do not have lots of documents to support my marriage since lots of them got lost after I moved out. Do USCIS still cares about those documents since I'm filing based on 5 years residency? And do USCIS have my documents that was sent for I-751?

3.  Does anyone have experience with N-400 divorce cases?

Thank you in Advance 🙏

Hi,

1. No other documents,  GC copy and divorce decree are sufficient.

2. Only what was sent to them, and perhaps taxes, but not necessary.

3. I really don't want to bum you out, but my experience was horrible. My officer was asking questions about my marriage and reasons for divorce, but did not ask for evidence (they can't based on 5 year residency). At the end, she gave me the  "Decision can not be made yet" result and held my case without a decision for 9 months after the interview. Worst 9 months of my life. 2 senators contacted USCIS in regards to my case without any result, but they finally approved after I contacted Ombudsman.

This process is very stressful so try not to let it get to you. They can try to make it hard on you, but everything will be okay in the end. Good luck :)

Hello!

I just got out of interview and I hope I can help.

Long story short: I came on K-1 visa, got married, got green card, divorced before 2 year period, applied for 10 year green card with waiver, got GC in mail after 8 month without an interview.

Citizenship interview: 2 female officers, one was very focused on her work, said lines so fast without any emotional emphasis, the second one was more friendly and chatty. First lady was focused on data entry on computer and making sure every box is checked while I answered questions and chatted with the other lady.

Easy: fingerprints and quick photo, 6 questions from the booklet about government (6, because I answered all of them correctly), question about taxes - do I fill them every year and do I owe anything to IRS.

Marriage questions: ex-spouse DOB, place of birth, date of marriage, date of divorce, how we met, dates when he visited me, did my family meet him, were we separated and did we live together during divorce processing. How long did it take to the divorce to be completed.

Oh, also they asked about my trips out of us, what was the reason/purpose.

They asked about my work, my unemployment and my new work. Honestly, they did not give a damn if I am a doctor, web developer or a server, or house cleaner - as long as I make money and pay taxes.

THIS INTERVIEW WAS JUST FORMALITY TO CHECK IF MY ANSWERS MATCH PAPERWORK.

That's all. They had all my file on the desk, in front of me. All 5 years of paperwork.

I took all the documents they asked for in the letter. You will get the letter in your NOA. I took extra stuff but they didn't ask. When you go to interview and let's say change job - take a few paystubs or something so you can tell them address or proe employment. Same if you move. They did not ask me for any papers though. Only ID and GC.

Let me know if I can answer anything more.
