Petitioning parents to live in the US.

Hello all,

I filed an I-130 online for my mother and father. I’m aware that the USCIS in Manila has been permanently closed.

 

i was wondering how’s the processing will go since I filed online not by mail?

Filing online is too new to know for sure, but the expectation is that it's identical to filing by mail except without the wait time for mail + entry into the system (a matter of days to couple weeks normally).

thank you so much!! I’m just a little bit unsure if it will affect my petition for my parents since the USCIS Manila is permanently closed.

That won't matter as they are being handled domestically. They will be assigned to a service center in the US.

After both petitions are approved, they will be sent to NVC for processing. Wiki: https://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process

Then they will get an interview date scheduled. Then they will do their medical and such, then interview.

thanks so much for the info. So far, i’m only on the first step which is filed the I-130. I’m just gonna follow the steps that will be sent to me. It’s a lot to absorb when I read the processing steps.

Just to clarify - you filed both petitions? One for each parent.

Correct. I filed one for each parent. For the I-864, do I need to provide one application or 2 (one for each)?

One I-864 for each petition. So 2 total.

USCIS office at the embassy was only for those living in the Philippines for over 6 months in regards to filing the I-130 petition.  Has no bearing on any other petition process.

 

As for the online filing process, how it process is fairly new, and like said, we have heard little feedback on how fast or slow it is.

 

Each parent has a separate petition, so it is two of everything for the complete process, which includes the I-864.

It’s just me and my spouse living together.

so plus both my parents, i will count my household as 4 or 6 (I mean since it’s separate I-864, for my mom it will be the 3 of us: mom, me and spouse. For my dad it will be the 3 of us also: dad, me and spouse?)

 

the I-864 is quite confusing as I’m looking on the form and instructions.

 

FYI: I filed my tax as Married Filing Jointly.

It would be 4 persons listed for each I-864 as you are filing for both your parents (and your husband would complete the I-864a).   Just remember you only list each person once on each I-864.

Lol. I just saw that there’s different types if the I-864. In my cases since I petitioned for both parents, am I allowed to use the I-864EZ?

 

i’m just trying to understand how the form works coz’ it is really confusing. Like on Part 3 of the I-864, idk where i belong in the category since I’m sponsoring 2 people. 🤔

I don't know about using the I-864EZ, there was a person that came through and tried to use the I-864EZ and the embassy required (gave them a 221g during the interview) they submit the I-864
