So we have some movement - my parents IR5 were both DQ’d on Nov 2020 - my father just got an interview email for July 14 in London. My mother got her DQ notice a couple days later so is this the expectation that interview notice will also follow shortly for others that have applied for both parents separately?

For Interview prep, what’s the current expectation for the police certificate? Are they allowing it to be more than a year old given the delay now?

Also, what’s everyone’s recommendation for how close to the interview to do the medical? Is day of too close? Day before? Trying to plan for time needed in London

thanks all!

Congratulations. I thought I had done well getting a June 28 interview for an IR-5 with a June 2020 DQ.

I was told to get a new police certificate because they are only valid for US visa purposes for six months.

This is the advice from the London embassy on the medical appointment...
When scheduling the appointment, please note that it takes 5 workdays for the results of the medical examination to be couriered to the Embassy.

Unfortunately, for me that means two trips from Scotland to London and an overnight stay each time to make sure I'm there for my medical and interview appointments the next morning. But I went ahead with that and had my medical yesterday.

Was it actually the embassy that told you that? The validity period was always one year until a few days ago, when it changed to two years.

Important: Police certificates expire after two years, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

- You are more than 16 years old;

- The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than two years ago; and

- You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

I have want to know about this as well, not sure if Mumbai embassy has started interview process for IR5

FYI I know of another forum where the parents are getting interviews for expired IR5s in Mumbai, it sounded like they are first reissuing the ones that expired unused due to Covid before doing any new schedules. You may want to check with the consulate on that.

Sorry - I've got that wrong. I have checked back through my emails. I've been using an immigration lawyer and they advised me to get a new police certificate. They said the previous one had expired because it was issued in January 2020. So they must have been working to the one-year deadline.

I've tried to add a note to that effect to my previous comment but there seems to be a time limit for making edits to a comment. Apologies if I have caused any confusion.

Yes we are thankful things are progressing for my father and hopeful my mother is also in this batch!

Ok that is what we feared re. the police certificate, here was us being prudent getting it early in the process (June 2020) thinking interview was imminent but we say the cert is supposed to be within 12 months - so a July 14 interview will be 2 weeks past... If you are hearing from immigration lawyer it is 6 months, but the next poster says 2 years, we will need to reach out and confirm i guess...

Yes we were just thinking same thing re. overnight stays for both trips re. medical - and doing medical a couple weeks ahead sounds like the best idea - you can't do them too early right?

Can anyone confirm if they have ever had a "certified copy" of a document accepted for interview and what you did for the certification? I've heard that someone didn't have their certification accepted and had to wait for the original and don't want that to happen...

For my parent's IR5, we need to provide my original or certified copy of birth certificate, but my original is in the USA so figuring if i need to mail it over to the UK....

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to stop by and give a little information on entering the US with my mom. Her interview was May 11, 2021. POE was Friday in Atlanta. So the Immigration Officer was surprised that my mother did not received a huge packet like back in the day. She olny received the Welcome to America packet and her passport. Information on how to pay for greencard. I told him it is all electronic but he wasn't sure so he sent us to secondary. This is usually normal anyways. So we got through there with no problem. The officer cofirmed address where the greencard will be mailed and again told us the rule on having a greencard. So just  heads up NOT ALL POE is aware that embassies no longer give you ALL your paperwork. Good Luck to everyone else on here, now my mom is filing for my siblings. It just keeps gooing. :)

During my parents IR5 interview they were told I (sole sponsor/petitioner) would need to have my spouse complete/sign the I-864A form & upload it. After that they can courier their passports to the embassy for the immigrant visa. However at no point in the last 2 years was this form requested. I earn way more than the federal poverty guideline for household size so why would they request a co-sponsor in this case? Has anyone experienced the same situation? I know they're prone to making errors so I just want to verify before I email them.
