Haven't watched cable TV (for more than a little bit if at someone else's place) in over 15 years.  Heard the name in regards to Brexit or something (didn't affect me), but don't really recall.

Well, after a weekend of a lot of speculation that Harry and Meghan were somehow going to bring about the total downfall of the UK, it looks like the Queen is supporting them. https://www.npr.org/2020/01/13/795955373/after-summit-queen-says-royals-respect-and-understand-harry-and-meghan-s-decisio

"Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family.

"My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.

"Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives.

"It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

"These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days."

Turns out they are consulting immigration lawyers and not going to do the DIY thing. Too bad they were not turned onto visajourney. That would done interesting threads.

I hear more about Trump in every day supposedly-unbiased Canadian media (local CTV/CBC/Global stations, radio stations, e.g. 660 News) than I did in the US.

Plus, they have a far bigger fascination with the "royals".

News is already swirling here about Trudeau having taxpayers pay for their security. Standard practice for any controversy, deny, while his bought-and-paid-for media buddies mop up with silence or more distracting "Trump" news, or the always-effective attack on guns.

Where would you recommend two ladies in their 30's, one with a small child, could hang out?

My apologies for the late reply. In Santa Monica, it depends (classic lawyer response, my apologies). With a small child, a trip to the Pier can be fun. There's a decent little amusement park there, with rides aimed at young children as opposed to teenagers. The roller coaster is not scary, just a few thrills, and the Ferris wheel gives great views. At nighttime, it can be quite magical, but I wouldn't bring a child there at night. Yes, there are homeless people down at the Pier, but they tend to be less aggressive (in my experience) than the ones near Tongva Park. Other options would be a walk up and down the 3rd Street Promenade or to Santa Monica Place, both of which have great food and shopping options, but might be more fun for the ladies than the child. And a walk on the beach is both free and beautiful. If you need recommendations for childless/childfree women in their mid-40s, I have many, many more of those.

It truly is a gorgeous part of the world down there, though the only times I seem to go down there these days are to go take care of something at the courthouse. I'm about six miles from the beach, nearer to Culver City, though the Non-Fiancé and I will be moving later this summer to either Beverly Hills or West Hollywood. The latter of these is definitely a fun zone if you're a gay man in his 20s, but perhaps not for small children. We had lunch in WeHo over the weekend and on our ride home we passed by a bar that had two young and muscular gentlemen gyrating fiercely in the windows, wearing only assless chaps over their thongs. I admit, I did slow down to observe.

Sadly neither gay nor in my 20's.

I never made it further south than Hurst Castle.

And I think I am unlikely do so now, where I am the snow seems to precluded gyrating in assless chaps.

Anyway back on subject it seems one of the Ladies, the one with the small child, is delaying moving until Trump is gone. So we may have some wait.

Ah, so this was for a move rather than a visit? There are some great family neighborhoods -- I'd recommend two I just mentioned, Culver City and Beverly Hills. Up in the Valley, Studio City and Sherman Oaks are great for families. However, both of those are in the LAUSD, and CC and BH have their own school districts, both of which are excellent.

The assless chaps are quite something, and not what one would expect on a Sunday afternoon when the sun is still up.

Sounds impressive, I think we can expect one of our other members to feel the need to pop down and provide a second opinion.
