International Degree/Transcripts Equivalency

Hello,

I have BA in Accounting and finance from a University outside the USA, and I am soon looking to start searching for jobs since I'll be legally able to work.

Are there certain customs and norms employers expect from international degree holders to provide? Like translation and whatnot? Or anything else so that my degrees are properly accepted by US employers?

Anything would help if you have any facts, opinions or stories to share!

Thanks

I don't know much about other professions but I am a pharmacist in the UK. Whilst the K1 visa is being dealt with, I've been working towards finalising my application to sit a foreign pharmacist exam at some point in the future in the US (the first step to gaining a US pharmacist license).

I was asked to submit my college and university transcripts plus a few other bits to a company called ECE for evaluation. They generated a report stating what my UK education was equivalent to in the US.

If your employer does need something like this, they would tell you I suppose. But maybe ask in advance just in case because it did take me awhile to sort the evaluation out and it did cost a fair amount.

It’s always best to get your degree formally evaluated for this, so you can unequivocally state in your resume that it is equivalent to a US 4-year degree (or whatever). A lot of people use WES (there are a few organizations, make sure you choose a reputable one). Unless things have changed they also have a page on their website where you can actually see what the degree is equivalent to before you pay for a formal evaluation.  https://www.wes.org

I used http://www.iescaree.com/ to evaluate my degree in linguistics from Chile. I was looking for jobs at public institutions in CA and they always shared a list of acceptable organizations, this was one of them. What they do is look at your transcripts, evaluate, and send you paperwork that says "yes, this is equivalent to a US BA from an accredited institution".

You could start looking for jobs and see if they too share a list of acceptable institutions or if they even mention foreign degrees (private companies may not care, but I'm not sure). I believe I paid $350 and it was good to have in advance as they usually ask for transcripts in the online application (in my field anyway, at public institutions in CA)
