How to prove 3 months' residency in the district for N400? [split topic]

Bit old but fresh thread:

I am in a city where my city Field Office processing times are around two years while my relative living city Field Office processing times are much shorter..

I am trying to see what are my options to use my relative residence address while filing my application to get to the short processing time Field Office.

What are the proofs that I can maintain?

1) Electricity Bill

2) Vehicle registration bills

3) Driving license change

Anything else?

I am almost an year away from my N400 filing eligibility.. Want to do things now.

I am planning to take my Lease document, Driver's license , 1 or 2 Utility bills to prove my residency during interview, if asked.

Your field office is going to be determined based on where you physically reside, not your mailing address.

On the N400 you will have to list where you are physically living, if you are using a different mailing address.

Part of the eligibility to file the N400, is that you must be physically residing in the jurisdiction for at least 90 days prior to filing the application.

 

If your friend's address is in the same state and just in another city, it likely won't make much difference in terms of processing times.

 

If your friend's address is in a completely different state where you are living now----you can have some issues:

 

It can quickly unravel with the IO once they ask to see proof of residency during your interview.  While one or two of your bills may show your friend's mailing address....your previous tax returns, financial co-mingling of any bank accounts, lease, etc. is going to show that you actually reside elsewhere.

 

My suggestion would be to just file from where you actually live.  Do it the right way, to avoid any problems coming out in the future.

@SusieQQQ Let me be bit clear. My intention is NOT TO SCAM OR to be illegal.

 

Here, I am trying to see what it takes for me to be a resident of the other place (LEGALLY).

I am thinking of being a part of my relative's home(getting on to their lease, paying a part of the rent etc) for an year or so.

Also I would like to keep my current house.

Having TWO residential (LEGAL LEGAL LEGAL please) addresses, can I use the one I most prefer(I also work in THAT area)

Per US immigration law definition, your residence is where you actually live. Generally people only live in one place at a time. That is where you file. 
 

B. Place of Residence

The applicant’s “residence” refers to the applicant’s principal, actual dwelling place in fact, without regard to intent.
