Hello,

I have been searching for info on this one but can not seem to find anything.

My husband has applied for IR1/CR1 visas for me and our 14 year old son. I wonder, if our son will have an own interview at the consulate. Is there anyone that is ir was in the same situation and has any info on how interviews for minors are being held?

Thanks for any information!

There is only one interview procedure, not much they ask a child, not much practically they can ask.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

The child will be interviewed. I can't speak specifically for how your consulate handles it, but usually they allow you to interview together.

The questions are usually pretty simple. For example, to make sure the child knows where they are going, possibly why, and who the petitioner is.

All the reports I have read is where the parent and child have interviewed together.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I don't know how far along you are in your process but I'm currently waiting for my minor son to get his interview. He will have his interview without a parent as my husband, his father is already in the US. I don't have any experience to share yet so I'm not sure what will happen.

have you applied for a green card too?

You state " our 14 year old son. " .      Is your husband the father of the boy?

Yes, he is the adoptive father as per German court order. Here in Germany their relationship is legally equal to a biological father son relationship. The German court people said that in the rules of a German- US treaty the status should be the same but I asked the USA consulate help line about it and they said he is not seen the same way and we have to go the i130 road for him... :(

Once in the USA do check into this further, being the boy is adopted it is very possible once in the USA he gets his citizenship.   I do not know the finer points of this as it has been some time since I read on it.  But I do suggest you check into that further with USCIS once in the USA
