Is anyone doing anything for Russia Day?

I was actually in Russia for "Russia Day" two years ago.

Funny thing, when I asked everyone why "Russia Day" was so important, they replied "It's a made up holiday. The government decided we needed a day for Russia, so they made this one up. It's really just an excuse to have holiday in summer time and get drunk."

Sounds good to me. Why don't we do more of that?

Sounds good to me. Why don't we do more of that?

Well, it's not that simple. It was a day of accepting an independent constitution, now it is a day of the country, kinda like a birthday. So it is considerably important. Three days off come with it now if I am not mistaken and it's important too - people in Russia have little pieces of land to plant veggies and other stuff on so any day off in summer is vital.

I had a coworker ask me if Russia had anything like independence day and I replied, yes independence day, he asked when, I replied tuesday. He wanted to know what they call it cuz we call ours 4th of July. Talk about lost in translation...
